Legislative Session and State Budget Overview
  state budget
The Pennsylvania state budget was passed minutes just before midnight on June 30, ending a hectic legislative session minutes before the deadline and summer recess. Over the past months, LAMPa experienced wins in some priority areas, and losses in others. Find out what happened and what remains to be done in the fall. Read our budget and policy summary here.

LAMPa Bids Farewell to Marissa Harris Krey
  Marissa
After five years of dedicated and faithful service, Marissa is leaving to complete her education and training for ordained ministry. She writes, "I can do this confidently, only because I know that my time with LAMPa will never really come to an end. While this new calling requires me to resign from the LAMPa staff, I will remain an advocate, Ambassador, and supporter of LAMPa in any way that I can be helpful". We thank Marissa for all the ways she has served God and furthered this ministry and will be honoring her in the future.  You can send her a personal note here.

Predatory Payday Slowed, but Still Needs to be Stopped
  payday loans
Despite a furious push by Payday Lobbyists (and a hefty push back by advocates), the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee did not act on HB 2191 before the summer break. In early June, the House voted 102-90 to approve the bill that would allow interest rates upward of 300%. See how your representative voted. LAMPa will be working over the summer to ensure this deeply flawed product is not legalized in PA. Find more information here
A Lament for General Assistance
empty wallet

"In the four plus years that I've been with LAMPa, nothing   has been closer to our mission than our work the past five months trying to save General Assistance," writes Marissa Harris Krey in a new blog post. Despite significant advocacy, this cash assistance program for 68,000 Pennsylvanians will be eliminated August 1, increasing homelessness and hunger. Read it here.
