PRIMARY DAY                                                                                April 24,  2012
 Greetings!vote

Today is Primary Day!  As you may have already learned from your visit to the polls, voters in today's primaries ARE being asked to show ID, but only as a trial run in preparation for the general election in November. You do NOT need a Photo ID in order to vote in today's primary! Here are some tips to help you, and to help others, get ready for November.

Wondering if you have the right ID to vote in November?

Below is a list of IDs that are acceptable under Pennsylvania's new law:

  • A PennDot issued driver's license or ID card that is valid or has not been expired for more than 12 months.
  • A photo ID issued by any Commonwealth agency or by the U.S. Government
  • U.S. Armed Forces photo ID
  • Photo ID issued by a Pennsylvania care facility
  • Employee photo ID issued by a Commonwealth municipality
  • Student photo ID from an accredited Pennsylvania institution of higher learning

If you do not have any of the above forms of identification, the Commonwealth will provide you with a Photo ID free of charge. However, you will need to present your local Driver's License Center with ALL of the following information:

  • A completed Oath/Affirmation Voter ID form that you do not possess a proper ID to vote. This waives the $13.50 fee.
  • A completed application for a Photo ID Card (DL-54A).
  • Your Social Security Card
  • One of the following: Your birth certificate with raised seal, Certificate of Citizenship, or Certificate of Naturalization.
  • Two proofs of residency such as: lease, utility bills, mortgage documents, W-2 form or other tax records, bank statements, and/or credit card bills.

If you cannot locate your social security card or birth certificate, contact the office of your local state representative or state senator and their staff will help make sure you have everything you need to vote in November. However, now is the time to act! Finding these documents may take time, so  start now to ensure your vote will count in November.

Already have a Photo ID?

Please share this information with your friends and neighbors. Plan to get information out to your congregation or organization in advance of November Approximately 11% of the population does NOT have a photo ID. Posting on bulletin boards can help, but please also make sure to ask others (particularly senior citizens who may have let their driver's license expire) if they have heard about the new law and have obtained their new ID.

The above information can be found on the Department of Motor Vehicle's homepage ( www.dmv.state.pa.us) by clicking on the new "Voter ID Law" tab on the left side of the screen.
