Moral Choices and the State Budget -
A Call to Prayer on March 8

hands and candle

LAMPa is joining with other faith community advocates on March 8 (the day the Governor's budget is released) to hold a prayer vigil for a moral state budget that remembers the poor and vulnerable. Read the declaration here. Materials including a bulletin insert and prayer petitions will be available on the LAMPa website beginning on March 1 for use in congregations. If you are interested in signing up for the vigil at the Capitol, contact the LAMPa office.

School Vouchers - Which Way?

School vouchers are getting top billing in Harrisburg as lawmakers consider allowing students at low-performing schools to take education dollars from their public-school districts and apply them to tuition at private schools or at a public school in another district.  What do Lutherans think about it? Read this new website post.

Lutherans Lift Voices to Save adultBasic

You've called, e-mailed, and visited... and members of the General Assembly have responded!  In recent weeks several legislative proposals to save adultBasic have been introduced.  Thank you to the 230 who signed onto the letter from people of faith to Governor Corbett. LAMPa's press conference releasing the letter attracted great notice to the issue.  As the February 28 deadline passes, advocates continue to work to find a solution. Stay tuned.

Hunger in the State Budget
Empty Plage

In a tough budget year, it's important to put forth our top priorities early and often. This year LAMPa is advocating increased support for the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP).  Visit the  Policy and Action Center for more information on SFPP and to send an e-mail to Governor Corbett in support as he prepares his budget proposal.

Congregational Hunger Resources

Visit the Upper Susquehanna Synod website

for a six week Lenten series of bible studies, worship resources, dramas,

children's sermons and take home family devotions centered around the four core principles of ELCA World Hunger.  Already have resources for Lent?  These would make a great Summer Series as well!

Live in the Southeastern part of the state? Check out City Soup, a six-week journey exploring hunger in the Bible and the Philadelphia area.  LAMPa is partnering with City Soup to develop this educational resource aimed at mobilizing people of faith to end hunger and spiritually equipping them for this journey.
