On December 29, 2011 the governor announced plans to lift the Family Care Enrollment Cap and restart expansion to additional counties. Legislative action was required for the plans to be implemented. The cap has been in place since July 1, 2011. Prior to the cap Brown County was scheduled for implementation of Family Care in the Spring of 2012.
During the night the state assembly passed an amended version of the Family Care Bill SB 380 and today March 14, 2012 the Senate passed this amended bill. Now it's on to the Governor for his signature.
This bill sets the stage to lift the caps where Family Care is already in place. The amendment requires that the Joint Finance Committee have an active role in any further expansion which includes Brown County.
Advocates worked with with state departments, the governor and legislators to pass this legislation to get enrollment restarted and continue expansion.
Advocay work is not done.
