Caregivers Support
Many people in our community are taking care of a relative, friend or other person they love and may be experiencing emotions of; concern, resentment, anger, sadness, helplessness, embarrassment and guilt - - -All At The Same Time.
If you are working with people experiencing this type of stress, please refer them to the ADRC. We can offer help! We help caregivers learn new skills to reduce frustration and stress, regain control of their lives, and most of all, realize that they are not alone. Our support groups and classes are professionally facilitated and designed to provide information, encouragement and emotional support.
Our many resources include:
Caregiver Classes. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a 6 week class focused on self-care and reducing personal stress in a caregiving situation. Learn about managing common feelings of anger, guilt & depression, along with setting goals, improving communication and using community resources.
Next Class starts Monday, Sept. 12 Thru Oct.17, 2011.
Monthly Caregiver Support Group. A professionally facilitated group targeted to anyone caregiving for someone over 60 years of age or age 18 or older with a disability. Meets the 1st Wednesday of the month, 5:30 - 7:00 PM at the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Brown County, 300 S. Adams Street.
Alzheimer's Family Caregiver Support Group. For familiies of and others caring for individuals with Alzheimer's and other dementias. Share caregiving information and learn about available resources. Meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:30 PM, Aging & Disability Resource Center of Brown County, 300 S. Adams Street.
Parkinson's Support Group. Dedicated to patients with Parkinson's Disease, their families, friends and caregivers. Meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 1:00 PM at the Aging & Disability Resource Center.
Information & Assistance. Information and options couseling on community resources to relieve caregiver stress. Staff are available to meet in our office, by phone or in the home.
Many of our clients are truly not aware of their need for help. If you recognize the signs of caregiver stress and burnout, please refer your clients/patients to the ADRC for help. We will have a personal and confidential dialogue regarding their situation and provide guidance for support.
