Message from Elizabeth Colón
 President of Metaphrasis

Spring is here, flowers are blooming and in just three short months, Metaphrasis is blossoming like the season.  We have secured our first video remote interpreting client, completed our first 2012 Medical Interpreter course, and released our first educational video ever.  Our March newsletter brings you up-to-date information on upcoming conferences, news articles and a glance at our newest team member.   We hope you enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

Metaphrasis Welcomes Sasha, F. Carrillo

The award went to Ester Corpuz, the Regional Vice President of Vanguard Health Chicago. Vanguard provides quality clinical health care at neighborhood hospitals and school based clinics and provides funding to local charities and foundations.

The night included an awards program hosted by IHCC President and CEO, Omar Duque, as well as dinner and live entertainment. Thank you IHCC for hosting such an important event!
Northern Indiana Medical Interpreter Association Conference: April 27th
NIMIA will be holding a conference, titled "Strategies for Excellence in Health Care", on Friday, April 27th in South Bend, Indiana. The conference will provide information on the enhancement of professional standards and state policies, specific to medical interpretation. It will address the need for legislators, interpreters, educators, and health care professionals to focus on the difficulties faced by non-English and limited English proficient patients. This year, the conference will feature five speakers from NIMIA and partnering organizations, including Metaphrasis' Sasha Carrillo.

Established in 2000, NIMIA was formed to promote education and formal training of medical interpreters, develop standards of practice, and encourage recognition of competency through certification.
