Message from Elizabeth Coln

President of Metaphrasis

Elizabeth Coln, President of Metaphrasis

On behalf of the entire Metaphrasis team, I would like to wish all of you a cheerful holiday season. I am grateful for another successful year and thankful for our loyal team of interpreters and customers for their dedication to Metaphrasis.

As 2012 approaches, Metaphrasis is happy to share a sneak peek into what the next year brings for our company. We will be adding additional staff members, new offerings for American Sign Language (ASL) and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI). The new year will also include new medical interpreting trainers, an enhanced training curriculum, and a new office space. While 2012 is sure to be a great year, please take a look at what made 2011 memorable.

We wish you health, prosperity, and happiness in the year to come!

The Toy Box Connection: The Gift of Toys

In the spirit of the holidays, Metaphrasis has united with the Toy Box Connection to bring the joy of toys to local children in need. The Toy Box Connection is a children's non-profit organization located in Chicago's south suburbs. The mission and primary goal of the organization is to "touch the life of a child through the gift of a toy".

To accomplish this goal, the Toy Box Connection accepts new and gently used donated toys and then distributes them to other non-profits, who are able to directly bring the toys to disadvantaged children. Currently the organization works with dozens of other non-profits including The Ronald McDonald House, Coalition for the Homeless, St. Jude's, and Mooseheart Orphanage.

Accomplishments of 2011

As 2011 comes to a close, Metaphrasis is proud to look back on the accomplishments of the last year. The following are a few accomplishments which made this year memorable.

Thanks to our clients, interpreters, staff, and alliances, Metaphrasis and Elizabeth Coln were recognized this year by Hispanic Business Magazine, Hispanic Executive Magazine, and Enterprising Woman of the Year! For these and other industry related articles, visit our website.

In May, Metaphrasis welcomed two additional staff members, Senda Memovic, Program Administrator and Elizabeth Brobeck, Client Relations Representative.

Metaphrasis brought on a team of medical interpreter evaluators to perform yearly evaluations of our on-site medical interpreters. The evaluations consist of the interpreters' arrival time, professional appearance, pre-session, accuracy in information sharing, and following the national standards for medical interpreters.

Our Professional Development Program was a hit this year, thanks to interesting and thought-provoking topics such as diabetes awareness, organ donation, and holistic medicine. Thank you to all of the speakers and organizations for making the workshops a success!

This fall, Metaphrasis upgraded their IT infrastructure and telecommunications, in order to better serve our clients. The telecommunications upgrade included consolidating our Chicago and Frankfort phone numbers to a single number, 815-464-1423. This now allows immediate access to customer service and our staff.

This year, our interpreter pool has increased by 33% and our hours of interpreting by 15%! These percentage gains were attributed, in part, to the new languages we now provide. Please visit our website for an updated face to face interpreting list.

Metaphrasis Holiday Party 2011

On December 17th, Metaphrasis hosted a fun-filled holiday party at Positano's Restaurant in Franklin Park. The 70+ interpreters and guests in attendance enjoyed a delicious Italian dinner, dancing, and raffle prizes! This year, Metaphrasis asked interpreters and guests to donate a children's toy to a local charity called Toy Box Connection. Thanks to our generous group, local children will receive over 60 toys this holiday season from Metaphrasis.

Visit the Metaphrasis website soon for more pictures from our event!
