The USCIS (U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service) informed participants at the California Service Center and Vermont Service Center stakeholder engagement in Laguna Niguel, CA, today, that 22,323 cap-subject H-1B petitions have been received as of April 4, 2012. Approximately 25% of these cases are for U.S. advanced degrees.
The annual quota allows for 65,000 new H-1B petitions and an additional 20,000 H-1B petitions for individuals who have earned a Master's degree or higher from a U.S. educational institution.
According to USCIS, the number of filings received in the first few days of the H-1B season is almost double the number of filings received by USCIS during the same time last year.
The FY2012 quota was reached in late November 2011. H-1B visa numbers will certainly be exhausted well before that this year. |
