ACDA Adopts New Mission Statement

acda logo
The American Choral Directors Association has developed a mission statement that will serve as a guiding declaration for the Association as it grows though the second half of its first century:

The mission of the American Choral Directors Association is to inspire excellence in choral music through education, performance, composition, and advocacy.

The mission statement serves to encapsulate ACDA's twelve purposes, providing its members with a clear definition of the values to which the Association ascribes.

Originally proposed to the Executive Committee and the National Board in September 2011, the Mission Statement was placed before the ACDA membership in a national survey in early 2012, where it received overwhelming support.  Based on that study, the Association's leadership endorsed the statement at their meeting in June.

This Day in Music

July 30, 1954 - Slim Whitman, Billy Walker, Sugarfoot Collins, Sonny elvis hips Harvelle, Tinker Fry, Curly Harris and a young Elvis Presley, all appeared at the Hillbilly Hoedown, Overton Park Shell, in Memphis Tennessee. Elvis was so nervous he stood up on the balls of his feet and shook his leg in time with the music, when he came offstage he asked why people were yelling at him. Someone told him it was because he was shaking his leg, which with the baggy pleated pants created a wild gyrating effect in time with the music.
