Advisory Board Member Profile

Sarah Beatty
is a seasoned marketing and communications professional currently serving as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee's Manager of Marketing Development. As such she oversees the major fund-raising events conducted by the youth mentoring organization as well as the agency's public relations, social media, and website presence. Prior to working in non-profit, she began her event management career with a for-profit firm conducting events for all sorts of clients - many of them fund-raisers for area causes.
When she and her husband Gary needed to relocate for his job for a few years, Sarah went from managing events like The EAR Foundation Balloon Classic with 30,000 attendees (and 30 hot-air balloons) to living in a town of 30,000 people... so she began a career in the newspaper business that lasted for almost ten years in two states. Later working as a freelance writer she encountered a non-profit that needed an experienced events person to join their small team, and the rest is a decade's worth of history.
Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children in need an additional positive adult role model in their lives. Unlike the kind aunt that Sarah had as a child after her mother passed away, many youth growing up in Middle Tennessee don't have anyone there for them to talk about school, friends, and the struggles our children face. Children that have a mentor in their lives are proven to do better in school, be more likely to avoid drugs and violence, and realize new and brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
Her involvement in Nashville Singers stems from a musical upbringing and having been a proud band geek, choir member, and thespian while growing up in Dickson, Tennessee. The teacher who most impacted her life is Cindy Freeman, Choral Director for Dickson County High School, who Sarah still sees every five years for that organization's alumni choir reunion and concert.
Sarah is an active member of Nashville CABLE and a Provisional Member of the Junior League of Nashville, and a former Board Member for the Williamson County American Cancer Society. When she's not working, Sarah enjoys scrapbooking, traveling, and retaining her title as "Favorite Aunt" to her many nieces, nephews, and young neighbors. She and Gary met at Lipscomb University as students, and have been married for twenty years this December. They happily live in Franklin with their dog, Sadie.
