About Us 
NSI tux logo


Nashville Singers, Inc. is a 501(C)3 non-profit corporation and performing arts organization founded in 2008.

The members range in age from teenagers to retirees and reside in Brentwood, Hermitage, LaVergne, Lebanon, Nashville, Joelton, and Smyrna.

The group meets at Whitworth Memorial Baptist Church the first three Thursday evenings of each month from 7-10pm.
 
Membership in Nashville Singers is open to all men who demonstrate the ability, desire, and a commitment to excellence in vocal and choral performance.

Important Deadlines for Music Educators!   

 

cash April 15, 2012 - Application deadline for the Music Makes a Difference music education grant program. Two $500 grants are available this year.

 

April 30, 2012 - Application deadline for the Educator of the Future college scholarships for graduating seniors pursuing a music education degree. One scholarship of $1000 is available this year.

Nashville Singers Taking Our Show on the Road!    

 

titanic It's official! We're taking our show on the road! Nashville Singers is one of three choral ensembles in America that has been selected to perform at this 100th Anniversary musical tribute event in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on April 14. USA Today published a feature story last week and we're told many national and international media outlets will be on hand to cover the festivities. Why don't you join us!

Acappella Academy Makes An Impact!

Participants in this year's free singing lessons program were asked to complete a program assessment form* to help us measure the impact of the program. Benchmark data was gathered at the beginning of the day. Participants were asked to conduct a self-assessment of their singing skills before and at the conclusion of the program. The results were very encouraging.
  • Interpreting a Song - Average score increased 48%
  • Vocal Quality - Average score increased 44%
  • Singing with Dynamics - Average score increased 37%
  • Hearing/Singing Harmony - Average score increased 37%
  • Visual Performance - Average score increased 33%
  • Breath Support - Average score increased 32%
  • Matching Vowels - Average score increased 32%
  • Balancing Chords - Average score increased 31%
  • Confidence - Average score increased 30%
  • Singing in Tune - Average score increased 27%
  • Matching Pitch - Average score increased 21%
  • Vocal Range - Average score increased 18%
The overall average increase was 33%.

* Metrics based on a 48% sampling of the program participants that completed the program assessment process.

Interview with Dr. Lenny Farmer    

 Lenny Farmer

1. What was your first job?    

Worked as a "bus boy" initially, until progressing to a "soda jerk" at Bradley's Bar-B-Q in Indianapolis, Indiana during high school. Before that were odd paper routes, etc.

 

2. My current job is...

(1) Currently work during the week at a Certified Pre-Arranging Consultant, servicing families who wish to pre-arranged their funeral plans before the need, through Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home, Murfreesboro. Been in the industry 13 years, with J&A for 9. (2) Serve at the Minister to Senior Adults at LifePoint Church, Smyrna. Been in this position for 6 years, and service the needs of the senior adults of the church 55 years of age and up, and preach the Sunday Night Traditional worship service on Sunday evenings at 6 PM. (3) Work with my wife Elaine in a home business call Plexus Worldwide, promoting Health, Wealth, and Weight Management.

 

3. My worst job ever was...
Worst and most difficult in Sterling Heights, Michigan, working for the summer in a nut and bolt factory, EverLock Detroit, where my task in addition to keeping floor clean, was emptying large vats of nuts or bolks after they had been washed with Kerosene. Great job for contact lens wearers!

 

4. My first car was a...
1963 Chevrolet Belaire. Sweet!

 

5. My current mode of transportation is...

2002 Hyundai, XG350L bought new, now has (180K)

 

6. My dream car is a...

Were money no object......Escalade - White

 

7. The last book I read was...
"Apocalypse Undone" by Dr. Preston Hubbard

 

8. My favorite magazine is...
Reader's Digest, although I don't currently have a subscription.

 

9. Who is the most famous person you have ever met?  

Dr. Billy Graham

  

10. If you could meet any person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?  

Dr. Charles Haddon Spurgeon, preacher in England in the mid 1800s.

 

11. When I need inspiration...

I first, go to the Word of God, and love to use Sarah Young devotional "Jesus Calling". Second, I love to read or watch biographies of great accomplished persons.

 

12. The educator or teacher that has left the most lasting impression on you...

Bill Bridges, music professor in college because he cared for me as a person.

 

13. But if I want to unwind...

I zone out on favorite series like, The Andy Griffith Show, The Unit, The Office, Seinfeld, or MASH.

 

14. I've never...
Seen the Beatles nor Elvis in concert. Well I guess those opps are out!

 

15. What is one thing that very few people know about you?
I have always wished to sing professionally in a Southern Gospel Quartet.

 

16. My favorite experience as a performer would have to be...

Singing before 600 raving fans at Vanderbilt with Nashville Singers. I have a short memory!

 

17. My favorite meal is...

Unfortunately, fried chicken from Popeyes or Bojangels, and catfish.

 

18. I am terrified of...

The aspect of crawling under a house for repairs, without knowing the critter company I'll be keeping.

 

19. If I could vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would love to go back to Cancun or the Bahamas.

 

20. The one piece of technology I can't live without?  

Apparently, my cell phone.

 

21. The last thing I purchased was...

An e-pad online for Christmas, which doesn't work, and China ain't answering the phone.

 

22. My favorite television show is...

Toss Up = Seinfeld, The Unit, The Office

 

23. My radio is most often tuned to...

97.1 the old hits, or 99.7 talk radio

The camaraderie is excellent. I enjoy the challenge of correct delivery. I appreciate and am grateful for the skill level of our directors'

Probably about 10

May 19 - Possible road trip to Cleveland, TN to enjoy the concert featuring the Suntones, Vocal Spectrum, and Four Voices. Informal performance opportunity possible.
