American Harmony Will Be Broadcast on the Documentary Channel This Sunday!
| | American Harmony HD trailer |
Every year thousands compete in the world's greatest singing competition - that you've never heard of. AMERICAN HARMONY journeys deep into the ultra-obsessive, zany, and heartfelt world of competitive barbershop singing, where passion is equaled only by raw talent, and the reward is not fame or fortune, but simply victory.
The film focuses on four quartets vying to win the International Championships of Barbershop Singing, in what turns out to be the closest and most controversial victory in its 70 year history. Max Q is the heavy favorite - a superstar quartet comprised of former Champions. Looking to upset them is OC Times (The Heart-Throbs), Vocal Spectrum (The Rookies) and Reveille, an aging foursome who that has been together for 30 years. In total, fifty quartets duke it out for the coveted gold medal, while facing the pressures of quartet life - from big egos to brain cancer and everything in between.
American Harmony will be broadcast on the Documentary Channel on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 8pm and 11pm Eastern (5pm and 8pm Pacific). If you have the Documentary Channel available to you through your cable or satellite subscription, don't miss this opportunity to see the film.
Set your DVRS!
American Harmony was screened at the Nashville Film Festival in 2009.
You can read more about this award-winning film the main web site at http://www.americanharmonythemovie.com.

Feedback from Master Class
with John Overton HS Chamber Choir
"The Nashville Singers have helped out tremendously by coming in to my classroom and doing a master class. It really helps the students to be able to have a fresh perspective on their music and new ideas and techniques to accomplish a great sound. They really helped out with my male students because they could demonstrate the type of sound that I needed and cannot demonstrate myself, being a female. It was also nice to have them say the same things to my students that I usually say. Sometimes they just need to hear it from someone they are not as familiar with. The kids really appreciated them coming in and look forward to when they return!!!!" - Kiera E. Crite, Chorus Director - John Overton High School Overton High School was also the recipient of the 2011 Music Makes a Difference music education grant. Applications are being accepted for two more grants through April 15, 2012. |
New Upcoming Community Outreach Performance
Nashville Singers will again be bringing their music to the patients at the Vanderbilt ALS Clinic at lunchtime on Friday, March 2, 2012.
The clinic is located at 1301 Medical Center Drive in Nashville. The zip code is 37232. The chorus will be presenting a 30-minute performance starting at 12:15pm.
On the first Friday of every month, the Neurology Clinic on the third floor of The Vanderbilt Clinic is completely transformed. There's a lively atmosphere, with food and music, and, most importantly, a sympathetic care team composed of every imaginable discipline.
This transformation is made for the benefit of patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. A neurogenerative disorder of the brain and spinal cord, ALS leads to weakness and muscle wasting in the extremities and impairment of speech, swallowing and respiration. Typical life expectancy after diagnosis is three to five years.
Because there is no cure for ALS and only one FDA-approved medication, which slows disease progression slightly, treatment focuses on improving symptoms.
There is also a major emphasis on creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Volunteer musicians play in the waiting room and lunch is donated so patients don't have to trek to the cafeteria.
Nashville Singers first performed for the Vanderbilt ALS Clinic on December 4, 2009. |
Meet Our Newest Guest
Bryan Patrick invited Neil Redkevitch to visit us on February 2. Neil lives in Bellevue and works as an IT guy for HCA in Hendersonville. He has experience as a chorus and quartet singer, as a former member of the Music City Chorus, and in a quartet with Bryan Patrick called Ragtag. It was fabulous to have Neil with us! |
Who's Off the Sheet Music on the New Songs?
For the chorus to begin polishing our new music and instilling a captivating performance plan for each song, we need to know 100% of the words and music from memory. Memorization Schedule - How High the Moon (February 9)
- Bad Day (February 16)
- Blew By You (March 1)
