It was released as the first single from his second album Daniel Powter and achieved the #1 spot in the U.S. and Ireland. In the U.S. it became the most successful single of 2006 as ranked by Billboard Magazine. Beyond the Sea Arranged by: Adam Reimnitz Year written: 1946 History: Contemporary pop song with music taken from the song "La Mer" by Charles Trenet and lyrics by Jack Lawrence. Bobby Darin's recording of this tune has been used in many films, TV shows and video games, including Apollo 13, Austin Powers in Goldmember, Diner, Goodfellas, Lost, Black Rain, The X-Files, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, Finding Nemo and BioShock. The song was also played in a 2005 commercial for Carnival Cruise Lines. A portion of Bobby Darin's recording was played during the splashdown and post-recovery of Alan Shepard's Freedom 7 in the first episode of the 1998 HBO miniseries, From the Earth to the Moon. Blue Bayou Year written: 1977 Arranged by: Tom Gentry History: Written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson and originally sung by Orbison, Linda Ronstadt took the song to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in late 1977 - as well as #2 Country and #3 Easy Listening. The single was RIAA certified Gold (for sales of over 1 million US copies) in January 1978. "Blue Bayou" was later certified Platinum (for over 2 million copies sold in the United States). It was a worldwide smash. This arrangement was just recorded by Crossroads (BHS champ quartet) on their latest CD and is a parody of the tune popularized Linda Rondstadt and others. Bring Him Home Arranged by: Pete Rupay Year written: 1980 History: Les Misérables, colloquially known as Les Mis, is one of the most famous and most performed musicals worldwide. It is based on the novel Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, which follows the struggles of a cast of characters as they seek redemption and revolution in nineteenth century France. French composer Claude-Michel Schönberg composed the Tony Award-winning score in 1980. Bring Him Home is probably Valjean's best known solo. He is begging for God to send Marius home to him and Cosette. How High The Moon Arranged by" Mark Hale Year written: 1940 History: The best-known recording of the song is by Les Paul and Mary Ford, made on January 4, 1951. The record was released by Capitol Records and spent 25 weeks (beginning on March 23,1951) on the Billboard chart, 9 weeks at #1. NEW HOLIDAY REPERTOIRE
Birthday Of A King Arranged by: Matt Swann Year written: unknown History: An old melodious hymn, the origins of 'Birthday of a King' is not known. However, its cheery tune makes it a popular number on Christmas. Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow Arranged by: Mando Fonseca Year written: 1945 History: The arranger is the co-founder of the doo-wop group, The Alley Cats (doo-wop group) also known as "Let It Snow", is a song written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in 1945. The song was written in July 1945 in Hollywood, California during one of the hottest days on record. First recorded by Vaughn Monroe, it became a popular hit, reaching number one on the Billboard music chart the following year. One of the best-selling songs of all time, "Let It Snow!" has been covered countless times by many artists. Due to its seasonal lyrics, it is commonly regarded as a Christmas song. However, despite the song's cheery, holiday feel, it is a love song that never mentions Christmas. Sleigh Ride Arranged by: Jay Giallonbardo Year written: 1950 History: According to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers [ASCAP] review of Christmas music, "Sleigh Ride" consistently ranks in the top 10 list of most performed songs written by ASCAP members during the Christmas season worldwide. ASCAP named "Sleigh Ride" the most popular piece of Christmas music in the USA in 2010 based on performance data tracked by airplay monitoring service, Mediaguide, from over 2,500 radio stations nationwide. We Wish You a Merry Christmas Arranged by: David Harrington Time of origin: 16th Century History: This is is a popular secular sixteenth-century English carol from the West Country of England. It is one of the few traditional holiday carols that makes mention of the New Year celebration. Visit the repertoire page of our website to hear samples of Nashville Singers performances, studio recordings, and rehearsals, as well as samples of the 2012 music described above.
