Another Interview with Rodney Turner

 Rodney Turner 2011 head shot

Q: What adventure most changed your life?
A: Never had an adventure change my life, but losing my youngest son Kyle, when he was 3 1/2 was impactful in that it was an experience I would not wish on any parent nor would I trade the short time I had with him - and I believe it helped to make me more tolerant of the world around me.

Q: What skill should every good performer/singer possess?
A: A great sense of humor!!

Q: What is the best advice you have ever received?
A: No matter what happens today, Tomorrow God will still be God!

Q: What is the best way to motivate other men?
A: I kinda like fear and intimidation, but that's not always possible so I lean towards providing a living example by the way I live my life and by the manner in which I treat others and the circumstances I am faced with each day!

Q: What should every man experience before he dies?
A: The true love of a beautiful woman and grandchildren!

Q: What skill would you like to master?
A: Spinning wheat into gold has always been a goal of mine!'

Q: What advice would you give the younger you?
A: Relax - life is a marathon, not a sprint - learn to float downstream in lieu of frantically paddling against the current!!

Ten Expectations of a Champion

Consistently excellent singing and performance spring from consistently excellent rehearsal and repetition. Each time you do something "righter than before," you make it easier for yourself to repeat that level of quality in subsequent performances. Regardless of the music, the performance setting, the ensemble, or the director, there are some hallmarks of excellence you can make part of your internal makeup, principles and techniques that are a part of the fabric of who you are as a singer. Then, cued with only quick reminder, you can redouble your energy and effectiveness in the best parts of making music, without distracting yourself with executing technique.

1. Singer's Posture

2. Active Face

3. Vowels that look right

4. In-line singing

5. Focused Singing

6. Know the characteristics of your part.

7. Bring the whole singer.

8. Expect to grow.

9. "I'm talking to you!"

10. Look, act, and be successful!
