September 10 - Busiest Day in Chorus History
The chorus was pushed to new limits this past weekend with three major events in one day, including a photo shoot, a coaching session, and a 90-minute concert event.
The day started early with a 6:30am chorus call downtown at the Masonic Grand Lodge for a photo shoot.
 | Photo by Matt Collins of Collins Imagery
Members not shown include Doug Morrison, Ric Domenico, and Sloan Yarborough |
In-kind sponsor Matt Collins of Collins Imagery was on hand to capture photos of the Nashville Singers is three different costumes, including new tuxedos provided by another in-kind sponsor, Gilda York at Ambassador FormalWear in Madison.
At 9:45, we wrapped up the photo session and made our way to Priest Lake Presbyterian Church for a coaching session with Grace Thompson from 10:30am to 3:00pm. We worked the 17 songs we would be performing later that night for our 7:00pm concert.
At 3:15pm we re-convened for a Season of Harmony concert planning session. We wrapped that meeting at 3:45pm and then worked to set up the CD sales booth. Everyone was given a few hours to grab a leisurely dinner.
The chorus call was 6pm, to get back into our tuxes, followed by a brief warm-up and sound check in the sanctuary.
The concert started at 7:00pm.

Todd Wilson (Executive Director) and Bryan Patrick (President/Board Chair) presenting a check for $500 to Ciera Crite (Choral Director) of Overton High School, and Carol Crittenden (Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator) of Metro Nashville Public Schools. Overton High School was the recipient of the first Nashville Singers Music Makes a Difference music education grant.
|
We took a 15-minute intermission and opened the second half with the presentation of our $500 Music Makes a Difference Grant to John Overton High School.

Nashville Singers then presenting a 40 minute program in the second half, including performances of a couple of gospel tunes by two different quartets.
Songs presented included: Danny Boy, Dear Hearts and Gentle People, Great Gettin' Up Mornin'(QT), Happy Together, Home on the Range, Impossible Dream, Intermission Song, Man in the Mirror, My Lord and I, Oh Bla Di Oh Blah Da, Over the Rainbow, Satin Doll, Shenandoah, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, The Lord's Prayer, Tonight, Your First Day in Heaven (QT)
Then it was off to the reception for punch and snacks, and a chance to mix and mingle with attendees of the concert.
After changing clothes one last time, and packing up sound gear and merchandising items, the last of us left the church at 9:30pm.
This day would not have been possible without some kudos to in-kind sponsors, Ambassador FormalWear, Collins Imagery, and performance coach Grace Thompson. We are also grateful for the work of our sound engineer Joel at Priest Lake Presbyterian, as well as Bob and Kathy Ware, who were also kind enough to donate some sailing lessons to our upcoming silent auction on November 19.

Meet Our Newest Guest
We were blessed to have bass singer Marquan Martin attend last week's rehearsal. He hails from Benton Harbor, Michigan, and loves singing, but also has lots of vocal instrumental experience, including playing the trumpet in the MTSU "Band of Blue." Marquan recently joined the Nashville Symphony Chorus, but remains interested in Nashville Singers. He earned his Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering at Tennessee State University, is pursuing his PhD in Computational Science at MTSU, and is an Environmental Engineer at United States Geological Survey.
