Today in History
| The Animals - House of the Rising Sun (1964)
High Definition [HD] |
September 5, 1964 - The Animals hit number one on the US charts with their breakout hit track "The House of the Rising Sun" which was recorded on May 18, 1964. Frontman Eric Burdon had reportedly first heard the track sung by the English folk artist Johnny Handle and the group learned to play it during their tour with Chuck Berry. The song went down so well with audiences at the Berry shows that they went into the studio to record it in one take between tour stops. It soon shot to number one in the U.S.
