Nashville Singers Involved in Community Outreach

The Executive Director of Choral Arts Link, Margaret Campbell-Holman invited Nashville Singers Executive Director Todd Wilson, to represent Nashville Singers as a guest artist/presenter at the MET Singers Summer C.A.M.P. The event was entitled "Inspiration Point" was held on July 18 at Tennessee State University and was attended by 20 young singers ages 8-12 years of age.
In its 15th season, this program is dedicated to linking participants with those who have immersed themselves in music's discipline and artistry.
Selected for their leadership, guest artist/presenters are chosen for their contribution to local, mid-state and national communities through their spirit of 'paying forward' in the arts. Sessions plant seeds in singers to aspire to higher levels of skill mastery and deeper levels of understanding artistry. Both are needed to inform all levels of musicianship.
Planned to offer an intimate, relaxed, interactive experience with a guest artist's selected music path, each session includes a sharing of the artist's musicianship, telling how music inspires(d) their life, and making music together with participants.
Each student and instructor received a free Nashville Singers CD.

10. If you could meet any person (dead or alive) who would it be and why? I'd like to sit and talk to my mom -- she went to be with the Lord in 1989 - and I'd like to just catch up.
11. When I need inspiration, I... stop and think about what Jesus went through simply to save us from our sins - if that doesn't inspire you, nothing will.
12. The educator or teacher that has left the most lasting impression on you... Walter "Monk" Hardin - he was my Sunday School teacher when I was about 10 or 11 - he was one of many Sunday School teachers I was fortunate enough to have that showed us boys how much he really cared about us and he would sit and talk to us about anything we wanted to talk about and he had great stories about being a mailman.
13. But if I want to unwind, I... get Rylie to her Grandmother and take Julie somewhere where we can sit by the pool and do nothing!!
15. What is one thing that very few people know about you? I'm pretty much an open book , so I'm a pretty easy read - but I guess that most folks who know me don't know that I'm fairly conservative on most issues, regardless of my liberal views of the work place and the country.
16. My favorite experience as a performer would have to be... singing in a backup group on Music Valley Drive where I met Julie, my wife!
18. My favorite meal is... that depends on my mood - if you look close, there aren't a lot of foods that aren't my favorite!
19. I am terrified of... politicians wrecking our country at the expense of party platforms - and snakes - which are very similar, if you think a bout it!
20. If I could vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be? I'd like to spend a couple of weeks at Disney World with Julie, Rylie, my boys and my grandkids - I love seeing children have fun!
21. The one piece of technology I can't live without? Probably my cell phone!
22. The last thing I purchased was... a Craftsman 12 inch, compound, sliding miter saw - Julie and Rylie got it for me for Father's Day - they just weren't aware of it when I bought it!

28. Musical instruments I enjoy playing include... piano - and I ain't very good!
29. What do I like most about being a part of Nashville Singers? Simply the fact that, thus far, I'm clearly the funniest guy in the bunch - and so far, everyone pretty much laughs at anything I say - it's cool, it's like being in high school all over again!
30. How old were you when you first started singing? Around three

Expectations of Membership
The mission of Nashville Singers is to entertain, educate, unite and uplift our audiences and members through music that is distinguished for its innovation, diversity and artistic excellence. This mission supports our vision to be a dynamic choral leader, changing lives through the performance of significant music. Achieving this mission and vision will require above average dedication from each member.
This Is What We Expect of Our Members: 1. Dedication to excellence: Nashville Singers is dedicated to achieving the highest level of singing and performance quality. Achieving our collective goal starts with our members; therefore, each member must be dedicated to achieving the excellence we seek. 2. Administration of the chorus: Nashville Singers has an "active member only policy." This means that each member is expected to perform one of the following: chair or serve on at least one committee, accept a position as an appointed official, serve in a chorus elective office, or be accountable for a position of responsibility within the chorus. 3. Participation at rehearsals: Nashville Singers expects each member to attend all rehearsals on time and to participate attentively in the entire rehearsal schedule. 4. Memorization of music and performance plans: Nashville Singers requires each member to be able to follow the Director of Music or his assistants and/or coaches. Members are required to memorize the chorus music and visual plan within four weeks of introduction. Nashville Singers does not expect this to be accomplished at chorus rehearsals; therefore, it is expected that a member will spend time away from the rehearsal to accomplish these requirements. 5. Certification for performances: Prior to a performance, or as new music is added to the chorus repertoire, and at the discretion of the directors or section leaders, a demonstration of proficiency in notes and lyrics may be required through the use of a tape or MP3 recorder or other methods as may be designated. In addition, special demonstrations of the visual plan may be required. Inability of a member to perform any music to an established standard may disqualify him from participating in public appearances. 6. Participation at performances: Members are expected to participate in all Nashville Singers public performances. However, representing Nashville Singers by singing in public appearances is a privilege which can be jeopardized by poor attendance at rehearsals. Exceptions can be made, on an individual basis. 7. Positive attitude: Nashville Singers expects each member to maintain a positive attitude at all chorus functions. This is not to say you cannot have an opinion or make a suggestion. However, problems or complaints should be brought to the attention of a member of the Nashville Singers Board of Directors, in private, and preferably in writing. 8. Participation in ticket sales: Nashville Singers will produce one or more concerts each year which depend on public ticket sales to achieve financial success. Each member is required to sell tickets to these events. 9. Payment of dues: Membership in Nashville Singers requires payment of dues. The chorus Secretary or Treasurer can assist you with information regarding membership options available and the cost for each. 10. Agreement to abide by Nashville Singers expectations of membership, standards and policies: Each member of Nashville Singers is expected to read and abide by the expectations of membership, standards, "Code of Ethics" and policies that may be enacted from time to time by the Board of Directors. |
