Musical compositions, it should be remembered, do not inhabit certain countries, certain museums, like paintings and statues. The Mozart Quintet is not shut up in Salzburg: I have it in my pocket. - Henri Rabaud

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Who are the members of the organization? A: Our members come from all walks of life, range in age from teenagers to retirees, and and reside in Brentwood, Hermitage, Joelton, LaVergne, Madison, Nashville, Old Hickory, Portland, and Smyrna. Nashville Singers is an arts organization. We have an open-door policy, respectful of diversity and welcoming to all male singers who demonstrate the ability, desire, and a commitment to excellence in vocal and choral performance.
Q: What if I can't make a performance?
A: While the quality of the chorus depends to a certain extent on the continuity of the individuals that make it up, we understand there may be many things in your life more important than the Nashville Singers. We do ask you to make a commitment to us, and that we make the same commitment to you, but you should not feel that you have to be able to make every single appearance to be one of us. Q: Do you have to sing to join Nashville Singers? A: No. A special class of membership has been created to allow "non-singers" to be a part of Nashville Singers. Associates assist the organization in a wide range of activities including administrative support. Q: How do I join as a singing member? A: Auditions can be scheduled at your convenience. For additional information, visit the auditions page of this website or send an email to membership@nashvillesingers.org.
Q: Do you have to read music to be a singing member? A: Singing members do not have to read music to join Nashville Singers. Part-predominant learning media is provided for most songs in the repertoire. The chorus asks that all members have a commitment to the mission of the organization and the desire to perform. Q: Are the singers professionals? A: All of the singers in Nashville Singers are volunteers and receive no compensation for their participation in the chorus. Q: How long has Nashville Singers been in existence? A: The first public meeting of this new ensemble took place on November 13, 2008 at the Harborview at Cheswicke community clubhouse.
Q: What costs are associated with membership? A: Student dues are $10 per month. Standard dues are are $20 per month. Members are also required to purchase their own wardrobe items (a one-time expense of approximately $130). There are other occasional costume expenses but these tend to be very small. Interview with Paul Gentry
- What was your first job?
Bus Boy at El Toro Steak House Cookeville, TN...The drama among the waitresses was just crazy.
- My current job is...
I am a Sr. Risk Engineering Consultant with Zurich Services Group. I supervise 15 men and travel thirteen states.
- My worst job ever was...
Bus Boy at El Toro. I've only had two jobs (that pay). I farmed with my dad and siblings until I left home. Besides room, board and love the pay was terrible.
- My first car was a...
A green two-door 1971 Dodge Charger with a 318 cubic inch V8, black landau roof and slick green vinyl seats. The windshield leaked at the top and when it rained water fell into my lap. The hub caps didn't match and I wrecked it three times. It had 67,000 miles on it when I bought it for $675 in 1978. When I was done with it, I gave it to my older brother-in-law who drove it for no telling how long.
- My current mode of transportation is...
A Black Ford Taurus 2010 company car. I have driven company cars since 1984.
- My dream car is a...
the 2011 Dodge Challenger with a 392- cubic inch Hemi V8, 6-speed stick in the floor with a Hurst Shifter, 20-inch wheels, in the "Green with Envy" metallic with black full body stripes and white leather seats.
 - The last book I read was...
Albert Einstein
- My favorite magazine is...
Tennessee Magazine
- Who is the most famous person you have ever met?
Albert Gore, Jr. He sat next to me at a 4-H Banquet in 1980. He was still a US Representative at the time. I was the 4-H Big Chief (A highly sought and honorable position) of Tennessee. He was the guest speaker at our Annual Banquet and I introduce him. In our family genealogy, it is believed (unverifiable) that his 5-great grandmother was Rebecca Gentry a sister of my 4-Great Grandfather Gentry. The Gentrys and Gores were neighbors in Overton County Tennessee in the first half of the 19th century.
- If you could meet any person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
Jesse and Elizabeth Gallion Gentry (married Jan 28, 1808 in Rutledge, Grainger County Tennessee) to verify who their parents and grandparents were and where, how and when they arrived in America and when Jesse first arrived in Jackson, Co., TN. The Gentrys have been in America since the middle of the 17th Century.
- When I need inspiration, I...
pray
- The educator or teacher that has left the most lasting impression me was...
Wanda Wirt, my high school chemistry teacher. She is the reason I wound up with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Tennessee Tech.
- But if I want to unwind, I...
prop up in bed and watch television.
- I've never...
been to Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana or Vermont.
- My favorite experience as a performer...
would have to be Nashville Singers concert last fall.
- I've been to...
Three foreign countries, Canada (does that count?), Bahamas, and Costa Rica, also Puerto Rico (it was foreign to me).
- My favorite meal is...
Ribeye Steak - medium rare, Baked Potato (Irish not Sweet), Salad with iceberg lettuce, tomato, carrot and new green onion topped with French Dressing, Sweet Iced Tea, and Apple pie with vanilla ice cream.
- I am terrified of...
tornadoes. The Super Outbreak of April 1974 left an indelible mark as 10-people died in my county and three of my closest neighbors farms ' (homes, barns, outbuildings and animals) were taken. When I built my family's current home, I built a tornado shelter under the front porch.
- If I could vacation anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Belize. It is not garishly developed, it has beautiful beaches, you can drink the water and flush the paper, and the official language is English. And I could drive if I wanted too.
 - The one piece of technology I can't live without?
An alarm to wake me.
- The last thing I purchased was...
materials to build an 8-foot high deer fence around our family vegetable garden.
- My favorite television show is...
"Justified". What is more fun than a feud between wigged out Hillbillies.
- My radio is most often tuned to...
105.9
- CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, or BBC?
Fox News
- My favorite singer is...
my sister Cheryl Jean
