John Overton Comprehensive High School
Awarded 2012 Music Makes a Difference Grant
The Board of Directors met on May 2, and reviewed applications for our first Music Makes a Difference Grant. This grant provides $500 to support music education at a MNPS school serving "at risk" students. Overton High School was awarded this year's Music Makes a Difference grant. The choral program at John Overton High School consists of three choral ensembles. The Chamber Choir is the premiere performing ensemble and is an audition-only group whose repertoire consists of multiple genres. The Show Choir is also an audition-only group and focuses on popular and Broadway genre repertoire. The Mixed Choir is open to all students and is an un-auditioned choir for those who enjoy singing. According to Academy Coach Stephen Sheaffer, these funds will impact the lives of 90 students and will be used to purchase relevant music and provide outside learning opportunities for students. Many of the students cannot afford the costs associated with performances and festivals in which the choir would participate. We received the following note from MNPS. Thank you to the Nashville Singers for truly making a difference in the music department at Overton High School. As they start their new academy, this grant will certainly be used toward the development of an outstanding music education program. - Carol Crittenden, Vice President Arts Coordinator at Metro Nashville Public Schools There is greater demand for financial assistance than our current budget can currently accommodate. If you would like to help Nashville Singers expand our grant funding to reach more Middle Tennessee kids in 2012, we encourage you to make a donation through our website. For donations of $500 or more we can name one of our 2012 grants in your honor. Your gift can make a difference in the lives of others. Donations are tax deductible.

Suntones Meet & Greet Event This Thursday!
Fifty years ago, the SUNTONES won the International Quartet Championship of the Barbershop Harmony Society in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The quartet will be honored on their 50th anniversary this summer at the Barbershop Harmony Society's International Convention on July 7. This celebration is extra special because in the history of barbershop, no other championship quartet has been SINGING for more than five decades.
You can hear and meet the SUNTONES this Thursday at 8:30pm at Whitworth Memorial Baptist Church. We suggest you bring along a camera, and your favorite SUNTONES album or CD for an autograph.
Their current repertoire includes: Emaline, Old Black Magic, Danny Boy, They Didn't Believe Me, Bye Bye Blues, Finian's Rainbow, Watch What Happens, If You Can't Tell the World, If, Jean, Old Folks, As Time Goes By, All the things You Are, Lollipops and Roses, Their Hearts Were Full of Spring, Hospitality, and Just a Little Street Where Old Friends Meet;
A handful of these songs will be performed on the evening of May 12.
Visit the SUNTONES online at www.thesuntones.com .
