A Video Tribute to Our Elder Statesman and the Suntones
 | | Harlan Wils |
The resident elder statesman of Nashville Singers is Harlan Wilson. He also happens to be my dad.
When my quartet ACOUSTIX won the International Quartet Championship back in 1990, my dad and I became the first-ever father and son to win the coveted gold medal. His quartet won the title in 1961 in a foursome from South Florida. They were called the Suntones. But for the Suntones, winning the championship was just the beginning of their incredible journey, one that at this point has spanned over five decades.
 | | The Suntones with Jackie Gleason |
We lost bass singer Bill Cain to cancer back in 2004 and unfortunately he was unable to sing for the last five years of his life.
I've had the honor of singing bass with the Suntones since 1999.
The Barbershop Harmony Society will be celebrating and honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Suntones Championship this summer at the International Convention in Kansas City, MO. Unlike most 50 year honorees, knock on wood, the Suntones will be singing at the convention
In June of 1995, my quartet flew to New York City to produce a video tribute to the Suntones. We spent 18 hours in a video editing bay at ABC News to produce a short video that until today had only been seen by a few thousand people in Miami, Florida at the Association of International Champions Show in July of that year.
Unfortunately, sometime over the last 16 years, the master tape was misplaced. What has survived is a dub of a VHS tape, however the audio bed is marginal at best and came from the house sound system at the Miami Beach Convention Center, so you'll have to turn up the audio to hear the voice over very well. Nonetheless, I think you'll appreciate this journey back into musical time.
The members of Nashville Singers are blessed to have Harlan singing baritone with us aand serving asd a member of our performance team.

Can You Hear Me Now? The Art and Science of Good Sound Design
Whether your needs are as simple as amplifying announcements from the podium or as complex as balancing voices with instruments in a large space, paying attention to sound design can make or break your event.
By Michael Shaughnessy

In anticipation of pleasing an audience, we develop a program we think will be engaging, we select a venue of appropriate size and location, and we choose production elements, attire, staging, lighting, positioning, choreography, that will help deliver a compelling performance they will long remember.
Often though, little attention is paid to what is, for a choral concert, arguably the single most important element for the audience, the sound. Months of painstaking preparation can be laid waste by inadequate preparation or execution of getting the sound to your audience. The tragedy is that many of the pitfalls can easily be avoided by paying attention to basic sound design.
