January 27, 1956 - Elvis Presley's smash single, "Heartbreak Hotel" was released by RCA Records, who had just purchased Presley's contract from Sun Records for $35,000. The song sold 300,000 copies the first week and would eventually sell over a million, becoming Elvis' first Gold record.

Advisory Board Being Considered for 2012

An advisory board is a collection of individuals who bring unique knowledge and skills which complement the knowledge and skills of the formal board members in order to more effectively govern the organization.

Nashville Singers is seeking to identify a pool of potential advisory board candidates, specifically corporate and volunteer city leaders, as well as members of the education, performing arts, and non-profit community in Middle Tennessee

If approved, the primary functions of the Nashville Singers (NSI) Advisory Board would likely include:
 

• Serving as NSI goodwill ambassadors;
• Offering advice and making non-binding recommendations to the NSI Board of Directors or Executive Director;
• Recruiting members who will make a support commitment with respect to matters within the areas of their experience and expertise.

The Advisory Board will be appointed by the NSI Board of Directors and serve for a year or more. One member of the Advisory Board would be appointed Chairman.

The Advisory Board would likely meet at least twice a year in a mentor/advisory capacity. Advisory Board members would receive no compensation for their services, and would support NSI in one or more of the following ways:
 

• Serve as advocates in the community for the NSI mission and goals.
• Promote NSI to potential and current donors and benefactors.
• Support attendance to the NSI self-produced concerts.
• Provide an oral summary of support activities conducted within each period.
