With the busy holiday season upon us, it is easy to get caught up in the frenzy of shopping and tying up loose ends.  However, there is still plenty of new and exciting things happening in literacy that we don't want you to miss!  This week's issue of The Boost shares ideas to support deep thinking and reflection in both reading and writing.  Enjoy!

Keeping Connected

Keeping Connected

We've just finished reading Barbara M. Taylor's Catching Schools.  If your school is embarking on a curriculum writing project to align your school's literacy program with the Common Core State Standards, be sure to check out our review to see how this book can help your team get a firm handle on "research-based" instruction.

Sharing...

Reading Workshop

Are you working on inferential thinking and interpretation?  Do not miss "Amazing Stop Motion Video Made with Desk Toy and Google Street View."  It's fabulously creative and offers a lot of potential for great discussion with students!

Looking for a good article to share with parents to extol the virtues of reading aloud to their children?  Be sure to check out "Reading to Children Has Long Impact" published by the BBC.

Writing Workshop

Many websites provide readers an "insider's glimpse" into the writing process of published authors.  Judy Blume's site does this especially well with separate tabs for "notebooks," "revising," and "living the writerly life" to name a few!

...And because we're thinking about Judy Blume, be sure to check this out from NPR Books.  Judy Blume talks about censorship and offers further reflections about her life as a writer.

... And Collaborating
