Hello ,
My daughters Miah (9), Ruby (7) and myself feel super lucky to eat healthy food, have a great education, beautiful houses and holidays and often take for granted that we generally don't die giving birth to our babies!
For these reasons we are going to skip Christmas and our summer holidays and spend a month travelling to Cambodia to volunteer at Life Options. Life Options is an organisation dedicated to helping rural Cambodian women improve health standards for their families and give birth safely in their own villages. Life Options is trying to raise $5000 to build a pre- and post-natal care facility to avoid the many unnecessary deaths of women during childbirth. Money raised will also help to improve the cycle of poverty and poor health that is the reality for most Cambodian families. SOOO, I have decided to go 'Coffee-less for Cambodia' and would LOVE for you to join me and support this charity! If you take the challenge to go 'coffee free', then you can donate the money you would have spent on coffee to Life Options! For example, if you drink one coffee per day ($3.50) then you would usually spend around $100/month on coffee! You can choose to go 'coffee-less' for a week ($25), two weeks ($50), 3 weeks ($75) or a month ($100) or more and donate this money to Life Options -OR if you don't want to give up your coffee, you can donate anyway! These decisions are luxuries that the Cambodian people just do not have!
Just think, you can detox a little before summer and help people at the same time! Just think, if just 50 of us give up coffee for one month and donate $100 each, Life Options will be able to build its entire pre- and post-natal care unit! Please email me to join the 'Coffee-less for Cambodia' club and let me know how long you plan to give up your coffee... Details of how to donate or give your 'coffee money' are below. Please give generously and thank you so much for your support!

Women's health in Cambodia:
Village mothers and babies have very few resources available to support them during pregnancy, birth and the rest of their lives.
There are many, many deaths each year during or around the time of childbirth ("crossing the river"), most are preventable; adult female death has a significant impact on the family's income and well-being. In addition, Cambodian women have a short life expectancy of only 58 years.
Extreme poverty leads to nutrition challenges, which in turn make facing a birthing emergency very challenging. There are no doctors to support midwives should an emergency occur. If the family manage to sell a pig or a cow for cash for transport then their food source is gone for the year, leading to more poverty and hunger. There is a lack of drugs and equipment in health centres to manage bleeding.

Life Options - supporting women to unlock their full potential
What we believe:
Everybody has the right to safe water, hopes, dreams, health and happiness. It is time to share safe birthing practice knowledge now, and save lives!
What we do:
We live and work in villages in developing countries sharing our skills, learning new ones, and developing an environment for a healthy sustainable life style.
We create a space for children to be born and grow into strong loving people. Life Options believes in children and their potential to contribute to change.
