Living with Alzheimer's for Caregivers Program Series to be Offered in Albany
We're partnering with Albany Guardian Society and the Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center (The Eddy) to offer the free three-part education series, "Living with Alzheimer's for Caregivers." Each session in the free series will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at the Albany Guardian Society offices in Suite 102 of 14 Corporate Woods Boulevard in Albany.

Living with Alzheimer's for Caregivers provides answers to questions that arise in the early, middle and late stages of the disease. Interested parties may attend any or all of the sessions that meet their needs. During each part of the series, participants will hear from individuals directly affected and learn about each stage of the disease process. Topics to be covered include: developing a care team; legal and financial planning, coping strategies, care and treatment options, communicating and connecting, and maximizing independence.

Part One of the series includes three sessions focusing on early-stage Alzheimer's and will be held on September 13, 20 and 27. These programs will cover information for caregivers of people exhibiting early symptoms such as short-term memory loss, confusion and challenges with routine chores.

Part Two of the series also includes three sessions and focuses on middle-stage Alzheimer's disease. These programs will be held on October 11, 18 and 25 and cover topics for caregivers of people exhibiting symptoms that may include problems recognizing people, repetition, restlessness and difficulty organizing thoughts.

Part Three of the series will be held in two sessions scheduled November 8 and 15, and focuses on late-stage Alzheimer's disease. These sessions will discuss topics relevant to caregiving for individuals who are experiencing such symptoms as little capacity for self care, little-to-no communication and decreased motor ability.

While there is no cost to attend these programs, registration is required. Participants may register for any or all of the sessions in the three-part series. To register, or obtain more information about Living with Alzheimer's for Caregivers, call the Alzheimer's Association at 518.867.4999 x209, or email infoneny@alz.org.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT. LEAD THE WAY.

Alzheimer's disease is the largest underfunded public health threat facing our nation today and it is growing at an epidemic rate.  Today, more than half of all Americans know someone with Alzheimer's.

That should make it easy for each of us to make a HUGE impact by starting a team for the Capital Region Walk to End Alzheimer's on Saturday, October 20.  Now is the time to recruit your team members and get them started on their fundraising.  Sign up as a team captain and ask friends, family and coworkers to join you.  Every team receives coaching and tools from the Alzheimer's Association to help meet fundraising and recruitment goals.
