Chapter Launching Memories in the Making Art Program with August 23 Training!

Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York (ALZNENY) is launching Memories in the Making®, a signature art program created by Alzheimer's Association Orange County chapter that helps individuals with Alzheimer's or other dementias to communicate through the creative process of painting.  Groups of 5 to 10 individuals meet weekly or bi-weekly in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult day programs to paint under the guidance of a facilitator specifically trained to work with individuals with memory loss and dementia.

On Thursday, August 23, ALZNENY will offer a daylong program for individuals who wish to train as facilitators and professionals who wish to bring this nationally-recognized program to their facilities.

The training will be held at the ALZNENY offices (4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405 in Albany) from 9:30 am to 4 pm.  The fee for the course is $75, which includes lunch and training manual.  Training is open to anyone interested in learning how to use art as a communication tool for individuals with dementia and related disorders. Facilities that choose to offer the trademarked Memories in the Making® program must sign an annual agreement with the Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York.

To register for the August 23 training please email Jamie Mott or call her at at 518.867.4999 x209. For program information please contact Dorothea Roka at 607.278.6544.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT. LEAD THE WAY.

Alzheimer's disease is the largest underfunded public health threat facing our nation today and it is growing at an epidemic rate.  Today, more than half of all Americans know someone with Alzheimer's.

That should make it easy for each of us to make a HUGE impact by starting a team for the Capital Region Walk to End Alzheimer's on Saturday, October 20.  Now is the time to recruit your team members and get them started on their fundraising.  Sign up as a team captain and ask friends, family and coworkers to join you.  Every team receives coaching and tools from the Alzheimer's Association to help meet fundraising and recruitment goals.
