New York Alzheimer's Association Advocates Rally at State Capital
The "Well" of New York State's Legislative Office Building in Albany was a sea of purple on Wednesday, May 16, as nearly 200 advocates and staff of the New York State Coalition of Alzheimer's Association Chapters gathered for the first-ever New York State Rally to End Alzheimer's.
The Coalition was honored to host dignitaries and speakers including NYS Department of Health Deputy Commissioner for Long Term Care Mark Kissinger, NYS Department of Health Director of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control and National Advisory Board Member Dave Hoffman, NYS Senate Aging Committee Chair David Valesky, and NYS Assembly Aging Committee Chair Joan Millman. The New York State Assembly passed a resolution during the rally, declaring the day "Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Day in New York State." Assemblymember Matthew Titone, pictured above presenting the resolution, co-sponsored the resolution with Assembly Aging Committee Chair Millman and Assemblymember Richard Gottfried.
The Coalition also presented the Frank Carlino Award for its advocates of the year to Lydia Panaro and Harry Grier.
