Water Gardening 101

When planting aquatic plants in my pond should I keep them in their pots?  Aquatic plants will do their best when removed from their pots and planted directly into the gravel bottom of the pond.  As the roots spread out through the gravel this will also maximize the nutrients that are removed from the pond to help to keep it clear.  Lotus are the only aquatic plants that should be kept in pots due to their invasive nature, they will take over your pond!  Lilies should be planted in 2-3 ft. depths but marginals need to be planted just deep enough to keep the roots wet.  Now is the time you should be feeding all your aquatic plants with fertilizer tablets to maximize their growth and blooming.
