Water Gardening 101
|
|
A primary focus of our company is educating people about the wonderful world of water gardening. Starting with this issue we will answer customer questions in each month's newsletter. If you have questions to submit please send them to info@truepump.com. We're tackling a big but very common question this month:
"Why is my pond green?"
When customers ask us this question we need to determine if they have a properly constructed and adequately filtered system (The Ecosystem Pond) and if they're dealing with suspended algae or string algae. String algae and the fuzzy algae on rocks are controlled primarily through water treatments such as EcoBlast (see video below), SAB, DSolv9 or the IonGen electronic clarifier. Even a properly filtered pond can develop string algae.
Suspended algae is caused by excess nutrients in the pond, algae is a plant and needs nutrients to grow! These excess nutrients can be broken down by beneficial bacteria (see video below) in the pond and in the filtration system. Though bacteria is naturally occurring, to achieve a crystal clear pond you should supplement with either dry or liquid bacteria weekly from spring through fall.
For further information or questions please stop by our store, email us or give us a call at 303.744.3505.
