Greetings!
After a very busy June it was nice to be able to enjoy a three day weekend for Independence Day. We believe business will continue to stay strong as we catch up from the previously weak economy and a late start to our season due to weather. See the ALCC Survey below for more information on what other contractors are saying about the current business climate. Also be sure to read the Product Update section for news on a new line of fountain products we are distributing as well as further information on the operation of the IonGen.
Pondemonium is quickly approaching but there's still time to sign up! (Early Bird discount expires July 11) Plan to join us for this year's event and take advantage of the opportunities for education, fun and networking with contractors from across the country. You can watch the Pondemonium video below or go to www.pondemonium.com for further information.

ALCC Survey
The Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado recently surveyed their members and we wanted to pass on the results of what contractors are feeling and doing in our industry:
General mood
-
80% are optimistic about 2010's economic recovery, market turnaround and consumer confidence.
-
Others expressed cautious optimism, and are looking internally for additional efficiencies and opportunities.
-
Several cited frustration at unqualified contractors and the general undervaluing of landscape services. Everyone wants a 'deal,' and professional installation, maintenance and design are not a high priority with consumers.
-
Government intervention (tax audits, elimination of tax credits, work comp changes, general anti-business climate)
-
Lack of new home and commercial construction
-
More bidders at the table; bidding lower than cost hurts the industry
What are you doing differently?
- 63% of landscape contractors have added new services or business lines (construction management services, outdoor or holiday lighting, snow removal, maintenance, expanded irrigation service).
- Cutting expenses, managing finances 'with an iron fist,' finding efficiencies and streamlining.
- Enhancing existing relationships with customers.
- Using social media to market, create awareness and stay in touch.
Main focus for 2010
- Marketing, marketing, marketing.
- Keeping good employees, which means paying them well and taking care of them, tough economy or not. Invest in the people that make the company go.
- Taking especially good care of established customer, vendor, subcontractor and client relationships.

Get Your Feet Wet!
True Pump and Trent Caldwell of Aquascape presented a seminar stressing the Back to Basics of entry level, affordable water features on June 24 to a group of contractors. Smaller features are easier to install, are more affordable to a larger percentage of your customer base and still carry solid profit margins. Attending contractors also learned how easy it is to install an AquaBasin and basalt column during the hands-on portion of the class. This year's Pondemonium will go into further detail on Aquascape's Back to Basics program.

Disaster House
What do a three-tiered fountain, a monster truck and a Pondless Waterfall have in common? Sound like a reality TV show? Well it is! True Pump had the opportunity to create a water feature for a show called "Disaster House." We're not allowed to share any further details but we'll let you know when the show will air this fall. Below Steve & Tim pose next to "The Pit Bull."

Product Update
True Pump is proud to announce that we are now a distributor for Fountains Unique. This line of well designed scuppers, fountain bowls and accessories are a beautiful addition to a classic or formal fountain. Contractor pricing is 25% off MSRP plus shipping and these items can be drop shipped to you or your job site. For more information go to Fountains Unique.
Also, we have received a few more technical tips to insure the IonGen performs at its peak efficiency:
- When installing the IonGen in-line be sure the red dot is parallel with the water flow.
- If the unit will not adjust to the top level if may be due to low conductivity of the water. You can increase the conductivity by adding 1 tablespoon of pond salt per 100 gallons in the pond.
- Pond detoxifier and dechlorinators bind heavy metals so these should not be used with the IonGen unless you are doing a major water change.
- See video below for more information on the IonGen.
