Located at Axis Communications' North American Headquarters in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, I caught up with Don Mulhern amidst his work with partners. Read on and learn about Don's work at Axis, what trends are effecting their security product offerings, and what's important to Axis as they conduct business in the industry.
What is keeping you busy today?
I am working on an encoder trade-in program geared towards giving partners the tools and information they need to get back in touch with their customers who have purchased Axis encoders in the past and begin discussions about trading them out for feature-rich cameras.
Tell us about your role at Axis?
I am an Account Executive for Central and Plains US, and my core responsibility is to help our distribution and integration partners navigate Axis. In addition, I spend a good deal of time with prospective and existing end users developing camera solutions for a wide range of deployment scenarios.
How did you get started in the industry?
I started off as a quality engineer at a networking company in the early 90s. The company was acquired by 3Com and I eventually moved into sales when manufacturing was moved off shore. I came to Axis about 4 ½ years ago with a very strong background in the network side of the business.
What trends are affecting product offerings at Axis?
Image resolutions and HD quality video is a significant trend with the inception of H.264 (white paper here). With it, Axis cameras and encoders can move very large amounts of data over the same network with no additional out of pocket to the customer. Axis was an early adopter of the HD standard for IP cameras, differentiating themselves from other manufacturers selling multi-megapixel cameras. Some manufacturers did not adopt a standard govern their quality and thus may differ wildly in image quality.
