of the latest course available on SBE University, called "Simple Network Management Protocol in Broadcast Monitoring and Control Systems". The purpose of this course is to give students an introduction and overview of the Simple Network Management Protocol, or SNMP.
With IP networking becoming an ever-increasing part of a broadcast engineer's environment, there is an opportunity to use this legacy IT protocol for our benefit. SNMP is a way to monitor data points and control different functions in remote equipment, using an existing IP network. Much of the latest generation broadcast equipment supports this protocol, and facility control devices are appearing on the market that can incorporate data and control functions obtained via SNMP alongside information and controls that use traditional hardwired inputs and outputs.

with Wayne Pecena, CPBE, 8-VSB, AMD, DRB, CBNT
SBE members - $49 ; non-members - $69
More and more content consumers are turning to the Internet in their consumption of broadcaster content. This increased use of the Internet has also driven expansion of the Internet. Much of the expansion is occurring in an IPv6 only environment due to the shortage of conventional IPv4 address space. This webinar will introduce broadcast engineers to IPv6 and help equip them to make informed decisions about implementing IPv6 in their organizations.
At the conclusion of this webinar, attendees will have:
- An awareness of IPv6 networking technology (broadcast focused)
- A basic understanding of the current state of the industry in technology fundamentals and principles
- Knowledge to help in making an informed decision about implementing IPv6 in your organization
- Suggestions on where to obtain further knowledge
Wayne Pecena is the Assistant Director of Educational Broadcast Services in the Office of Information Technology at Texas A&M University. In this position, he serves as the Director of Engineering of TTVN: The Enterprise Videoconference and Data Network serving the Texas A&M University System and Public Broadcast stations KAMU-TV and KAMU-FM serving the Brazos Valley area.
