What does SBE Certification mean to you?

SBE Certification means that I am able to demonstrate to potential employers that I have solidly met a measurement of current industry knowledge along with broadcast experience. The SBE has done a magnificent job creating a practical process to test an individual's knowledge and understanding with questions composed with input from the broadcast industry.

Since the removal of the FCC license process, SBE Certification has filled the void and has been able to provide employers in the industry with a calibrated unit of measure to compare potential new employees and reward existing employess who have made the effort and taken the time to increase their own certification level and stay involved with education and learning.

SBE Certification is a great way for newcomer's and long term members in the industry to prove that they are learning and continue to learn and progress in our industry.

Education Spotlight - NEW SBE University Course
                                                      SBE University
All the courses on SBE University are available to SBE Members for under $100 each.

The purpose of this course is to give the student an introduction to the fundamental concepts of computer networking. The course will explore computer topologies (physical and logical), media types, the OSI model and local area networking. It will cover some legacy material, but is primarily about Ethernet, TCP/IP and other current computer networking protocols. Hardware, such as switches and routers, are covered. In addition, software, such as VLAN, VPN, and NAT are reviewed as well. Some basic troubleshooting, security, and administrative procedures are also reviewed.

The course is meant as an introduction, and covers many subjects at a high level in order to assist the broadcaster in passing the SBE Certified Broadcast Networking Technologist exam.
This course will take the student through every facet of AM antenna systems in all their forms, both dealing with each element or variation separately and pulling the elements together to show how they are used in concert.

This course will be of interest to those in both television and radio station facilities, and will give the student a working understanding of how the signal gets from end to end, how to troubleshoot telco problems and how to properly interface broadcast equipment to the telco world.

The purpose of the SBE 8-VSB course is to give the student an overview of the 8-VSB system from end to end, providing all the basic information needed to understand the nature of 8-VSB modulation and to recognize deficiencies in the transmitted signal.

This course will take the student through the modeling and measurement process specifically for AM broadcast antennas, providing a general understanding of the process and procedures as well as operation of the recommended software.

Upon completion of this course, the student should have a clear understanding of the proper design, installation and maintenance of an FM transmission system.

The purpose of this course is to give the student a good overall understanding of the various types of networks used in an AM transmission system, the situations in which each might be used and calculating the leg values thereof.
