Community Service Projects

 

The NHS officers have been busy this fall, organizing both a Food Drive and a Gift Card drive to help those in need in our communities. In addition, they along with other members met with Superintendent Jeff Young to discuss how they can help out middle school students transition to CRLS, and are planning develop an activity they hope to pilot this spring.

 

Upcoming Community Service Opportunities

 

Students should email nhs@cpsd.us if they are interested in any of these opportunities.

 

Cambridge Community Center Winter Market is seeking volunteers to help out on Saturdays from January 7th to April 28th of 2012. This will total 16 days of service, and shifts are available between 8am - 3 pm.

 

NAACP Annual MLK Breakfast at the Marriott Hotel in Kendall Square on February 11, 2012. We need about 5 students who could help during the morning

 

Many Helping Hands / Cambridge MLK Day of Service on January 16, 2012. The sponsors would like to have a group of CRLS students participate.   More information can be found at : http://manyhelpinghands.blogspot.com

 

Invitations for Juniors to Apply for membership

Students in the Junior Class with an official GPA of 87 or greater at the end of this semester will be invited to apply for NHS membership. Invitations will go out in mid February. In addition to Scholarship, the other pillars of the NHS Service, Leadership, and Character. Students who anticipate applying for membership will need a minimum of 20 community service hours, so they can prepare by organizing letters of verification of service as well as completing additional hours they will need.

 

Cultural Exchange Opportunity

For the past 2 Octobers, the NHS together with Carousel Tours hosted a student exchange group from a school in Germany.~ The school in Germany would like our host students to visit, so a trip to Germany for our students is being planned at the end of June, after school ends. The trip will last for about 12-14 days, at a cost of about $2500. Students should contact Mr. Mili at school or via email at: pmili@cpsd.us by January 20th if interested.

THE PACKETS ARE HERE! THE PACKETS ARE HERE!

Are you starting a new math class during the 2nd semester of this year? If your answer is "YES!" then you have an assignment called a pre-course packet.  Pre-course packets feature skills and material that you need to know before you begin your math class.  Finishing the packet before the first day of class is a requirement and teachers may give a test or quiz on the packet material or they might count the packet as part of your homework grade. The packets are available on the Math Department page of the CRLS web site found at http://crls.cpsd.us/math/crls_math If you are currently taking a math class, they can be obtained from your current math teacher. You can also get the packets in the Learning Community S office located on the 2nd floor of the Rindge Building room 2119. Questions? - please talk with your math teacher or see Mr. Gaglione. Enjoy!

CRLS 8th Grade Information Night: January 19, 2012 from 6-8 PM

 

Please join us on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 from 6-8 PM in the Arts Building at CRLS for the 8th Grade Information Night. Come learn about the exciting and engaging opportunities in the academics, arts, athletics and extra curricula offered to CRLS students. The agenda for the evening will include a presentation from Interim Principal Damon Smith in the CRLS auditorium (Fitzgerald Theartre) followed by a smaller group sessions with guidance counselor, deans, parents and current CRLS students.

CRLS HOMEWORK CENTER

The CRLS Homework Center is now open in the CRLS Pearl K Wise Library. The center will be open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (Friday also as needed) from 2:30 - 4:00 pm. All students are invited to drop in for help with their assignments
