HARVARD MODEL CONGRESS at CRLS:

Do you want to be part of the next generation of civic leaders, learn about relevant political issues, and have a great time?

Are you interested in the workings of the government and in improving your public speaking skills?

Would you like the opportunity to share your ideas with other students from around the world?

Harvard Model Congress Mentoring Program (HMC) is seeking CRLS students for a student organization dedicated to

increasing civic education.

Harvard students mentor CRLS students weekly after school in small groups, to prepare them for the annual Model Congress Boston conference February 23-26th, bringing together thousands of high school students from across the nation, to simulate all branches of the American Government.  Some full scholarships will be provided to attend the conference at the Boston Sheraton.

To learn more see: harvardmodelcongress.org

TO SIGN-UP Contact:  HMC Mentoring Director, Tracy Jasper outreach@harvardmodelcongress.org or by calling, 781-974-9876

STUDENT MEDIA RESOURCE CENTER:

The Student Media Resource Center (SMRC) is a dynamic drop in space staffed by Media Technology Instructors and work-study peer mentors. Our goal is to support students as they develop media and technology literacy, production and presentation skills needed to be effective 21st century citizens.

Students will get one-on-one, hands-on help with media projects of their own choosing: animations, blogs, podcasts, digital stories, documentaries, media art installations, website creation, and original music. Help includes conceptualizing, camera and editing support, and finalizing projects for homework, web archiving and/or channel viewing.

The SMRC is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30-5:30PM at the Media Arts Studio, 454 Broadway - directly across from CRLS.

PARENT/GUARDIAN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

CRLS is beginning the process of reaccreditation by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC). NEASC is a member organization that certifies/grades schools kindergarten to college across New England for the work that they are doing. NEASC will be visiting CRLS in March, 2013. Between now and then the school will undergo an intensive self-study. CRLS is looking for parents/guardians that would like to serve on one of the standards committees. Meetings will occur on a monthly basis after school. If you are interested in being part of this very important process please contact Dean of Curriculum Jeff Gaglione at 617-349-6650. For more information visit the NEASC web site at http://www.neasc.org.

The Mountain School:

Every semester, forty-five talented high school juniors spend four months in Vershire, Vermont living and working on our organic farm. Many CRLS students have attended over the years. Students take five classes, take care of the gardens and livestock, and live in small houses with their friends and teachers. All academic credits transfer back to CRLS, and the friends you keep for the rest of your life. Admission is selective and financial aid is available to those who qualify.
