On Thursday April 7th, the CRLS Derry-Wood Chapter of the National Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony.  The ceremony included speeches by the current officers highlighting these pillars of the NHS, Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service.  Mr. Brendan Kells was the guest speaker and all were entertained by the CRLS Advanced Jazz Ensemble.   This year, ninety-nine members of the class of 2012 were accepted into the National Honor Society.

Upcoming Events:

Senior NHS members have been invited to a breakfast event on May 12th, at the Harvard Faculty Club.  This event, 'Leaders:Today and Tomorrow' is generously sponsored by the Cambridge Rotary Club to honor the graduating NHS members.   Students should return their signed permission slips to Mr. Mili in order to attend.  NHS seniors are also invited to apply for the scholarship opportunity offered by the Rotarians.  Information about this scholarship was distributed to NHS seniors in homeroom.

Junior NHS members have been invited to participate in a group community service project on May 12th.  This event has been a highlight in past years, as the students assist in making the Mayor's Annual Senior Citizen Lunch at MIT an enjoyable time for all who attend.  Students should return their signed permission slips to Mr. Mili in order to attend in room 2613.

It's time for MCAS...again

The Math MCAS, being given on May 17th and 18th, is just 5 weeks of school away.  From now until then the Did You Know? daily homeroom newsletter will feature an MCAS Problem of the Day from the DESE web site http://www.doe.mass.edu/mcas/testitems.html?yr= .  Homeroom teachers are recording their homeroom's answer each day and the homeroom with the most correct answers between now and the exam will win a full-blown breakfast from S & S.

In addition, Dean of Curriculum for Learning Community S and Mathematics Jeff Gaglione is visiting 10th grade homerooms and delivering to each student a packet of information related to the exam.  Included in the materials are a list of resources for help at CRLS, the formula sheet that will be given to students during the exam and a list of test-taking tips (one of the tips is to take the test backwards!).  Three former exams with answers are also included in the information being distributed.
