News from the CRLS Library

The Massachusetts School Library Association has selected the CRLS Pearl K. Wise Library website as an exemplar in the state.

Kudos to Jaye Alper, retired, and Tricia Keenan, MIS, for its design and development.

From the award committee chair:

"The Cambridge Rindge and Latin library web site was nominated by an MSLA board member and was a clear front runner in a fairly large pool of nominees--a clear and deserving winner.

All people concerned with the creation and maintenance of the site, as well as students, parents, admins, and the entire school community, can be pleased by the accomplishment."

The website can be found at: www.cpsd.us/crls/library  where it proudly bears the MSLA seal of excellence.

Also,

The Pearl K. Wise Library is pleased to host an exhibit of spectacular large scale, black and white photographic portraits of CRLS teachers and students by CRLS student Nick Guevara. The exhibit, which recently was shown at Cambridge City Hall, will be up in the library indefinitely. Come by and you may see someone you know!

Calling all Skiers and Boarders!!

The CRLS Ski and Board Club is planning another overnight trip during February vacation, and will stay at the Round Hearth in Stowe VT. We will leave Cambridge on the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 20th and return the evening of the Feb. 23rd. In order for this trip to proceed we need at least 35 students to put down a non-refundable deposit of $100. The cost is $475 that includes 3 nights of lodging, lift tickets, breakfast & diners.

Lunch, rental and lessons are not included. If we are unable to get 35 students to sign up for the trip by Thanksgiving break, the trip will be cancelled and all money will be returned. Informational Meeting on 11/22 at 2:30pm in room 2212.

Please help support our CRLS trip to London!

·                     Five English and Drama teachers are taking over 30 CRLS students to England from April 16-24, 2011 through EF Tours' "Curtain Time in London." This trip offers an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for CRLS students from all backgrounds to learn about and engage with the dramatic and literary cultures of England. In addition to visiting traditional attractions such as Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, and Piccadilly Circus, we will attend professional West End productions, participate in acting workshops with professional London actors, and join in exclusive backstage tours of theatres. Additionally, we will visit esteemed literary sites such as Bath, Stratford, and Canterbury.

·

·                     We have made it a priority to invite students of all socioeconomic backgrounds on this trip. The financial support of the CRLS community would make this trip much more affordable for our students of modest means. Please consider a tax-deductible donation of any amount!

Visit our website https://sites.google.com/site/crlsinlondon2011/ to make a donation through Friends of CRLS, or send a check to FOCRLS (be sure to write "CRLS trip to London" on the memo line). Thank you in advance for your generosity! If you have any questions, email group leader Ariel Maloney at amaloney@cpsd.us.

Sincerely, Greta Hardina, CRLS Parent Liaison
