Tutors Available for Students

Tutoring is available in the CRLS Tutoring Center in Room 3606.
This service is free to students before or after school.
Cambridge School Volunteers recruit volunteer tutors for CRLS students.
Students must sign up with Mrs. Meshon in 3606 in order to be matched with a tutor.

Reel Girl Talk

With Reel Girl Talk, young women can make media on issues that matter to them. We will explore everyday experiences - relationships, body image, pop culture and more. This is the beginning of a new club giving
students a chance to learn some production skills and create pieces for SmartTV98.

If you want to make your voice heard and work with other talented young women, this club is for you!

Author Visits

Our students will have 3 interesting opportunites to hear from,
and speak with, published authors this fall. All within a 2 week period!

October 21st- Mark Kurlansky,
author of the Cambridge READS book this year,
"Cod: A biography of the fish that changed the world"
will be speaking to classes at the auditorium of the Cambridge Public Library. His book tells the fascinating history of
cod fishing in our area, how it influenced the development of our regional economy, and the impact of depleted fish populations.

October 28th- The 9th graders will all travel up to the CRLS auditorium for a presentation by Laurie Halse Anderson.
Ms. Anderson is a very accomplished author of Young Adult fiction including the very popular "Speak", a New York Time bestseller,
and made into a movie in 2004. She is equally masterful in contemporary and historical fiction and we are eagerly looking forward to her visit.

November 9th- A newly published author from Dartmouth MA, Kimberly Marcus,will be speaking with students about her first novel, "Exposed",
published by Random House. The novel, to be released in February and getting very good pre-pub reviews, tells, in verse, the story of a teen girl
whose life changes after one traumatic incident. Ms. Marcus, a former child therapist, will speak with students in the beautifully renovated
Pearl K. Wise Library about her writing process and getting published.

College Planning and Essay Writing Assistance

The Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV) College Planning and Essay Writing (CPEW) program begins on Wednesday, October 20, from 2:30 to 4:00 pm in Room 2208.

Volunteers are attentive, skilled and dedicated listeners who can help your child brainstorm, explore and organize their ideas. They can also assist with making outlines, completing applications, meeting deadlines and breaking down the process into manageable steps.
Volunteers help with editing essay drafts while always encouraging students to find their own authentic voice.

CPEW is available to all seniors, including those who have not yet begun thinking about college or applying for early action/early decision.

Last school year CSV assisted 60 seniors with the college application process.

WORLD JAZZ ENSEMBLE -

OPEN AUDITIONS!

This is an advanced jazz ensemble and will focus on the performance of a variety of musical styles from many areas of the world.

Instrumentation will be piano, drums, bass, guitar, horn, strings, woodwinds, and vocals..

The WJE is a real class: students will get credit for it! Meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30-3:50
