News from the Photography Department: CHECK OUT the New York Times Lens Blog, A Moment In Time. It's a photo of CRLS photography teachers Archy LaSalle and Debi Milligan hanging the 34th Annual CRLS Photography Exhibit at the Piano Factory Gallery in the historic Chickering Piano Factory Building, the second largest building in the world when it was built in 1854. CRLS Photography teachers and students were very pleased to have their annual show in such an historic building and gallery with many of the artists who live in the building attending the opening and talking with students about their photographs. "The Piano Craft Guild today retains the color and unconventionality of it's artistic tradition...in an eclectic, exhilarating environment." The photograph of CRLS photo teachers was taken at the Gallery by Frank Tadley for A Moment in Time (photographs from all over the world taken at exactly 10 a.m. on May 2, 2010) featured in the New York Times blog. The opening reception for the CRLS Photography Exhibit on May 13 was attended by more than 250 people - students, teachers, parents, artists, musicians, poets, family and friends as well as Superintendent, Dr. Jeffrey Young. Former CRLS student, Odaine Williams, who attends Berkeley College of Music, played jazz piano throughout the opening. It was an elegant, beautiful evening and an outstanding student exhibit. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/05/03/blogs/a-moment-in-time.html/#/4bdda97e0bca2560a90002ec |

News from the Math Department:
The CRLS Math Department is ending English's grip on summer assignments! Each packet will include a list of expectations and skills that students should come to their class with in the fall. It will also include a variety of problems that should be completed over the summer that will help solidify math skills students should have already acquired in previous math classes.
