The Parents We Mean to Be

a presentation by

 Dr. Richard Weissbourd

Thursday, May 13, 6:00 pm

Cambridge Public Library

Main Branch Auditorium

449 Broadway Cambridge (next to CRLS)

Has our intention to be "positive parents" gone too far? As

parents we are focused on our kids' happiness. But the intense focus on happiness - and the constant praising of kids that goes with it - can imperil the development of kids' moral qualities. How can we raise children who are both happy and moral? What are the key moral capacities we need to develop in kids, and how can we as parents and teachers develop them? How can we praise

more constructively?

This talk is intended for parents of middle and high school age children. It will describe concrete practices at the heart of being an effective moral mentor. It also addresses how children's moral growth is tied to our moral growth as parents and teachers.

For more information and to register contact Greta Hardina, CRLS

Bullying / Cyberbullying Prevention in Schools and the Community

It is impossible to discuss the topic of bullying without including cyber bullying. These unacceptable behaviors are often community based but the effects spill into the schools, causing hurt feelings, exclusion, and rumors.

The most effective bullying prevention is a positive and inclusive school climate and a community effort to stand up to incidents of

bullying. Bullying behaviors can have serious consequences for victims, bullies and bystanders.

Please join us for a conversation about improving safety in our schools and

community. Presented by Margie Daniels, Executive Director of Middlesex Partners for Youth Inc.

When:

Thursday, May 27, 2010

6-8 PM

Where:

CRLS Freshman Campus

359 Broadway, Cambridge

Sponsored by Cambridge Rindge and Latin

school. For more information or to register for the event please contact Greta Hardina ghardina@cpsd.us or call 617-349-6660. Open to all parents, teachers, and community staff. Topics may be too sensitive for young children.
