Walleye and the Fish Band
Animator: Lee Corey | Theatrical Release for USDA Save the Fish Campaign
If they handed out Grammy Awards for singing fish, surely Walleye and the Fish Band would be contenders.
The band is featured in a 30-second PSA, produced by TimeSteps and is currently playing on 360 movie theater screens in the Great Lakes area. While it tips the "scales" for fishy fun, the PSA has a serious message about VHS disease, (viral hemorrhagic septicemia.)
VHS disease has decimated 17 species of fish in the Great Lakes, and while it is not contagious to humans, it is severely affecting the aquaculture of the region. In the short theatrical PSA, Walleye and the Fish Band sing about VHS awareness.
In the coming weeks, a two-minute video for the web will go viral. It's an animated music video featuring the band singing its "hit" song "Help Save Our Waters" with lyrics suggesting tips anglers and boaters can take to stop vhs disease , (see video link in next month's newsletter.)

THE FINAL STORM
by Jeff Shaara |
TimeSteps Provides WW2
Footage for New Book of New York Times Best Selling Author, Jeff Shaara
THE FINAL STORM, a World War 2 novel set in the Pacific, is the new book by New York Times Best Selling Author, Jeff Shaara. Publisher, Random House, created a 15 second spot for the web promoting the book and TimeSteps supplied footage from its archives of historical scenes from 1898-1960.

"Our collection has about an hour of footage documenting actual battle in the Pacific theater," says Marilyn Petrokubi. "One of the films we have is a propaganda film called "Gaiko" produced by the Japanese which shows actual fighting and their efforts to communicate that the Americans are losing the war. It's fascinating footage. However, since THE FINAL STORM is written from the American point of view, the footage Random House favored was all scenes of the American war effort.
Producer, Bob Pomann, of Pomann Sound also created the soundtrack and David Bruce, of Planet Productions, edited. THE FINAL STORM was released May 17th in stores and is available on Amazon.com. Go to www.jeffshaara.com for more information. |

The Roar of Creativity: Cannes Lions Internat'l. Ad Festival
The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival is a global creativity blast for those working in advertising and related fields. This year's event is scheduled for June 19-25.
Delegates from around the world attend the festival to view their peers' work, attend seminars and the awards galas.
The festival also celebrates fresh ideas of the "under 30 set" with the Young Lions Competition. This month Marilyn had the opportunity to interview a team of two marketing professionals from J&J Consumer who are representing Team USA in this competition.
They talked about their experience in the first round, the U.S. qualifying competition, and their "entry" - a marketing proposal they created for www.Kiva.org, (a non-profit organization which serves to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty by leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions.)
Now the J&J Young Marketers are poised to compete at the next level in Cannes where they will be asked to create a creative brief and oral presentation for an as yet undisclosed organization. Go Team USA! |
