Jaffe House Goes Green With American Clay, Cork Floors, and Recycled-Content Concrete Staircase

Recently completed with water saving features like Caroma dual-flush toilets and onsite renewable solar energy production the Jaffes were concerned about the durablility and indoor air quality of the finish materials they were putting in their stunning new house.  Completed with INDIGOGreen's Pearl Gem collection cork floors from APC Cork, the click-lock floating cork panels were chosen for their cleanability as well as thier durability, and physical  and thermal comfort.  INDIGOGreen was also chosen to work with them on their one-of-a-kind recycled-content concrete shower basins, fireplace surrounds and spiraling staircase which in a stunning white, are contributing to a lower electircity bills by reflecting daylight and keeping the floors cooler because of concrete's natural thermal mass.

 paperstone

Paperstone Countertops: Super Solid, Super Cool, Super Green
Made with petroleum-free and formaldehyde-free phenolic resins (the same technology used to form and harden outdoor skate ramps) Paperstone is no ordinary paper-composite material.  Although paper composites have been around since the 1940's Paperstone's properties and composition takes strength, beauty and sustainability to a whole new level.
The phenolic resins derived from cashew shell nut oils give it high compression strength, excellent abrasion resistance, absorb very little water and are class A fire rated.  All of these qualities combine to make the perfectly durable countertop material in the kitchen.
The green attributes are pretty amazing too. Not only are the resins low-VOC and formaldehyde-free, but the paper is FSC-Certified and recycled and it can be cut like wood with regular wood-working tools which can save not only money but energy in the fabrication process.
All colors are dyed solid throughout the countertop so you have a consistently colored solid surface that comes in a variety of thicknesses(1/4"-1-1/4") and dimensions (5' x 8', 30" x 8', 5' x 10', 30" x 10', 5' x 12', and 30" x 12') and can be used for not only horizontal applications like kitchen and bathroom countertops tops, cutting boards,  table tops, and window sills, or vertical applications like partitions, interior and exterior cladding, and cabinet work but also landscape components and indoor/outdoor furniture.
