Greetings!
It was a pretty busy month for the K9 Klub with the AGM, Earth Day pitch-in at the park, Animal Services update, the Character Awards last night and ongoing Pooch Party plans, so we held up the newsletter a little so we could get all of the news out at once. First up was our Annual General Meeting held on March 22nd. Thanks to all of those who came out. A special thanks to Patrick Lui from the Parks, Recreation and Culture department for the update and presentation on the new dog park progress. It's coming along nicely and we have heard that survey markers are already in the ground. We encourage everyone to take walk around the area if you haven't already. Thank you also to Councillors Carmine Perrelli and Nick Papa for attending and continuing to show support for our mandates. This year's pitch-in at the park on Earth Day was another big success. Thanks to all who came out to help us clean up the trash from the park lands and trails surrounding the Tower Hill Dog Park. It was much cleaner this year as we only had to fill about 7 garbage bags; a lot less than previous years. There was one disturbing trend we noticed this year however; some park users are cleaning up after their dogs but then throwing the poop bags over the fence! This month, Town Council approved a budget item renewing the OSPCA animal services contract. There was, however, a provision that the Town will move ahead and begin planning for a Richmond Hill owned and operated Animal Services solution including the creating of a committee comprised of Councillors, town staff and other stakeholders with the purpose of helping provide ideas and direction for this important initiative. The K9 Klub will be included on this committee and we are very pleased with that and with direction the Town is going on this. As you may have seen from our blog posts, Facebook etc., the K9 Klub was nominated for an award from the Character Community Foundation of York Region in the category of 'Change our World - Community'. Last night, Adriana Pisano Beaumont (K9 Klub Co-chair) and Wendy Walker (Treasurer) accepted a Certificate of Nomination on stage at the Centre for the Perfoming Arts. Although we didn't win the category, we are very proud of our club and all that our club has achieved over the last several years. Thank you to all of our members! We'll place the certificate in the bulletin board at the park very soon. Pooch Party plans continue. As time permits, we will updated the Pooch Party Website with updates. Thanks to volunteers for their hard work so far!
See you at the park!
