Greetings!
It's our 24th edition of this newsletter (View Archive) and it's very fitting that it's filled with goods news!
Our membership, board and friends never cease to amaze. What a fantastic group of people! With very short notice, not only did we all come together once again to stand up for what's right, we achieved what many thought was a near impossible outcome.
As a number of you are aware, since you were there speaking, supporting and bearing witness, here is what we achieved at the Town Council Meeting November 14, 2011:
What this means is:
- Council has instructed the various departments to begin on the new park immediately and complete the project in 2012. We will keep everyone posted on progress through our website and newsletters. A preliminary design meeting has already been scheduled for the dog park and we expect ground breaking sometime this spring. I encourage everyone to visit and walk the Phyllis Rawlinson's site from time to time, with your dog on leash of course. The whole park area is a wonderful area and something Richmond Hill should be very proud of.
- The Tower Hill park will remain open for the foreseeable future. The next meeting on the park's fate will take place a year after the new park opens with Council reviewing a staff report at that time. The K9 Klub plans to continue to maintain the park, as we always have, with the much needed help of our very generous volunteers. Provisions have been made in Council's decision to work with the neighbouring residents to mitigate some of their issues and the Klub will be proactively engaging them and the Town to discuss and implement solutions that will create harmony for all.
A very special thanks to the Tower Hill Off-Leash Rally (THOR) for keeping us all in the game! The group continues to collect petitions and will do so until Tower Hill is officially permanent. Please support the cause by visiting their website, www.savetowerhillpark.ca , printing and completing the petition and mailing to the address provided or dropping off at participating partners such as Global Pet Foods across from the park. Don't forget to ask your fellow doggy loving friends to fill one out too!
So, it is with pride the Richmond Hill K9 Klub dogs will be walking with humans in tow for the 4th time in the Richmond Hill Santa Claus Parade. One of our favorite Town Councillors and Golden Doodle (hint) will be walking with us! If you have not had a chance to reserve a spot, please email us before this Sunday and we'll send you the instructions.
Remember Santa will also be at Pet Valu (in the Longo's Plaza) on Saturday, December 3 for their annual Holiday Party! There will be giveaways, raffles, lots of specials and refreshments for all. Pet pictures with Santa are free with a donation to the K9 Klub - just in time for those Christmas cards!
See you at the park! (soon to be "parks!")
