The newsletter is a bit tardy this month as we have been feverishly planning Pooch Party for June 26th at Richmond Green. If you haven't had a chance to visit the event website for updates, check it out www.poochparty.ca. Drop in often for updates on planned activities.
I'd like to take this opportunity to plead for volunteers to help out at Pooch Party! We have our vendors and sponsors lining up, our activities nearly set and we are about to launch our local ad campaign to get everyone out on the big day; now all we need is a few more bodies to help us work the event! If you are interested in helping out please email info@poochparty.ca and we'll get you set up! The opportunity is also open to high school students needing more volunteers hours (6 - 8 more hours for your report!). P.S. There will be free food involved! (Human kind)
Let me take the rest of the intro to brief everyone on the last month...
Since the last newsletter, the Klub had another successful clean sweep event at the park on Earth day in conjunction with the nationwide Pitch-in Week. Thanks to Adriana Pisano Beaumont for organizing our best cleanup yet! Again this year, we all created a nice pile of garbage bags for pick-up. Our efforts, as usual, concentrated on the areas surrounding the park. The walking paths, pond, Tower Hill boulevards, and the forests around the park were picked clean. Councillor Lynn Foster was in there with the rest of us picking up the vast amount of trash left behind over the winter. Thanks also to the student volunteers (and their Mom!) who willingly hauled many wheelbarrows of fresh mulch, donated by a local nursery via our Parks department, into the park for even more wonderful volunteers to spread around. A big thank you also to Starbucks for providing the coffee and a number of gift bags we gave away to some of day's participants.
On April 10th we held our annual general meeting at the McConaghy Centre. Although the attendance was somewhat disappointing, we were pleased to see our local Richmond Hill Councillors Carmine Perrelli and Greg Beros stop in on their way to another commitment. Not really a surprise, as they have been avid supporters of our Klub. We moved quickly through our official business and elected the board that will serve for the next two years. We then saw a couple of terrific & informative presentations from Diane Barrow of York Region Canine Massage and Dr. Judith Snider, Certified Animal Chiropractic Practitioner. The most productive part of the meeting was the discussion hosted by Councillor Lynn Foster on the fate of the Tower Hill Park, the new location plans and where we go from here with the parks. Stay tuned on more information on this.
We would also like to welcome a long time friend, supporter and now proudly one of the K9 Klub's commercial sponsors, Lorraine Wilson's... 4 Paws Training & Pet Services! Thank you Lorraine!
OK, back to work on Pooch Party... this volunteer work is exhausting!
