Unfortunately we must start this month's newsletter on a sombre note. As most of you will have heard the dog park on Tower Hill, despite its popularity, will be closed once a new location for a dog park is found and opened; a time frame not to exceed two years.
Thank you to those that attended both meetings and spoke in favour of the park. Despite the Staff Report's recommendations, we were thrown a bone at the April 4th meeting when it seemed that the majority of Council was loath to close a successful park without first seeing if the opening of an additional park would alleviate some of the "issues" raised by local residents.
On April 11th though, after listening to several over the top, well over the time limit speeches riddled with blaming dog owners from everything from litter and noise to grand theft auto and threats of lawsuits against the Town, Council voted to accept the Staff Report's recommendations. You can read comments and opinions posted in response to the short version of the Liberal article here and in the blog post "It's over, for now" later on in this newsletter.
So it seems we will have to soon say goodbye to our beautiful and unique Tower Hill location. In the meantime, though, we will be kept busy with the planning of a new park thought to possibly be located within Phyllis Rawlinson Park.
Of course, we must continue do the housework at Tower Hill while we are still there, and we'll be celebrating Earth Day by cleaning up the Winter litter from the area around the park. Come help out on Friday at 1pm - the coffee is on Starbucks!
Also coming up on May 10th is our Annual General Meeting where we will not only take care of some official Klub business, and hear from a couple of fabulous guest speakers from the local community, but will also open the floor to discuss the happenings of the past year and plans for the future. We look forward to seeing our membership and hope to also add some new faces. Details will be sent out shortly.
We've had a number of wonderful articles posted to the website in the last month and felt that in lieu of just one article we'd give you a taste of a number of them. Clicking the heading or the links at the end of the preview will take you to the full post. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did and encourage you to comment.
See you at the park!
