HABITAT'S MOST NORTHERLY BUILD
Iqaluit affiliate
"At the top of the world, under the midnight sun, there is a desperate need for affordable housing," and so Habitat for Humanity Iqaluit was founded in 2005. Habitat's most northerly affiliate is currently working on its third home.  They hosted a "Midnight Sun" build this summer with global village volunteers arriving from all over to help. Check out the CTV news video here.
They hope to finish the house this fall, but their Facebook page explains that this isolated affiliate is waiting for more supplies to arrive by ship.
HFH KELOWNA: A RETROSPECTIVE
Millenium Build
In 1999, the Kelowna affiliate successfully completed a home on Walnut Glen Drive on the Westside. The build was made possible through the ongoing support of Shirley and Sherwin Goerlitz of Acorn Homes.  The build raised the grand total of homes built to nine.

In 1999, the approaching millenium caused much excitement and even some consternation in Kelowna as elsewhere.
The volunteers of HFHK were inspired to plan their most ambitious project to date: an eightplex which they called their Millennium Build. As usual, the community responded with generous donations of cash and materials.

The affiliate purchased two lots side-by-side on Highway 33 in Rutland and turned the sod for the first of eight townhomes in the fall of 2000. Additional homes were built by the volunteers at the rate of about one home per year. Significant financial assistance to complete the project was received from MacKay LLP and from The Real Estate Foundation.
