Houses are selling for next to nothing in some American cities. You can buy a fixer-upper in Detroit or Cleveland for as little as $1,000. That is certainly not the case here in the Okanagan, where the high price of land will continue to be a major challenge for our affiliate as we go forward..

HFH Kelowna is a community-based, non-profit, faith-based organization working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.

Habitat for Humanity means volunteers and partner families coming together to create affordable housing -- we are part of a world-wide grassroots movement! At this time of year, we feel especially thankful
for everyone who has been a part of our local efforts
and we hope to accomplish even more next year.

HOW HABITAT CHANGES LIVES

One family's story

Six-year-old Anita was excited when her mother and father told her their family was leaving Baghdad to go on vacation in neighbouring Jordan, but she couldn't understand why her mother was crying as she visited her neighbours to say goodbye.

What Anita's parents couldn't tell their six children was that they were escaping the repressive regime of Saddam Hussein to seek a better life. Only later did Anita understand: "It meant once we left Iraq, we were considered as betrayers, it meant that we could never come back. They took away my parents' belongings, all that my dad worked for. We had to leave our money in the bank."

Anita's family are Assyrian Christians, who trace their adherence to Christianity back to the first century A.D. and their ethnic origins to the ancient civilization of Mesopotamia. [read more]

CHRISTMAS WITH HABITAT

Fruits Fruits & Passion at Orchard Park Mall is offering help with your Christmas wrapping for a donation to HFH Kelowna. As well, you can pick up some Cucina Arancia hand soap with a portion of the proceeds going to Habitat. Make Good Earth Gingerbread families s a good hostess gift.

Good Earth Cafe and Bakery is once again selling their tasty gingerbread families. $1.00 from every gingerbread family purchased will go to help Habitat patner families. Visit the Good Earth Cafe and Bakery on Pandosy at Tutt Street.

Donate to Habitat! If you are an Interior Savings Credit Union member, watch for your annual notice of your Member Rewards arriving in the mail. Please look inside for instructions on how to donate your member rewards to Habitat for Humanity. Your donation is tax-deductible.

We tithe 10% of unrestricted donations to HFH Lesotho in Africa, who build homes for orphans and their foster mothers. We can accept donations of some building materials, please contact us for more information.
