Middle School Washington, D.C. Trip
45 of our middle school
students and 7 teachers traveled to Washington, D.C. the first week of
March. The group's busy schedule
included visits to the National Archives, the Library of Congress, the National
Cathedral, the Bureau of Engraving, the Spy Museum, and the Holocaust Memorial
Museum.
At the Smithsonian
Institute, they toured the American History Museum, Natural History Museum and
Air & Space Museum. Braving
the cold weather, the group paid visits to many of the national memorials and
monuments including those honoring Lincoln, Jefferson, Vietnam, Korea, World
War II and Iwo Jima.
Students met
3rd District Congressman Lynn Westmoreland before taking a tour of
the U.S. Capitol. One of the
highlights of the trip was a visit to Arlington National Cemetery where they
watched the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and then
four students, Mark Cline, Logan Maloy, Ross Smith, and Jade Yu, participated
in a wreath laying ceremony. This
year's field trip provided an excellent opportunity for our students to see
many of the things they have studied as well an experience that they will
always remember.
