                        GVHS Evaluations

GVHS members and their horses gathered in Springfield, Ohio on August 11th to have their horses inspected. After the previous evening of meeting and making new friends, many of the group dined out in town, and then many camped that night right next to the stable area of the beautiful facility. The next morning the inspections began at 9am. The very experienced and trained evaluators, David Ayers and Judith Warner, provided each owner detail information about their particular horse as well as valuable general information about the conformation of the Gypsy Vanner Horse. Congratulations to all that participated. The stallion, Segway, owned by Clarice Francis of Troy, Ohio; and the stallion The Pleasure's Mine owned by Steve and Rita Cardy of Fonthill, Ontario Canada; both of these Gypsy Vanner Horses earned their Gold Medallion of Quality under saddle- English.
If you are interested in having an inspection in your area contact the GVHS office. info@gypsyvannerhorsesociety.org

The Board of Directors has accepted Mr Mitchell's resignation as President and wishes to thank him for his service.

Let Me Tell You About My Gypsy Vanner
Thanks so much for this opportunity for me to tell you about Arkan (GV01129F, born 06/01/2002), my gelding gypsy Vanner. He is from the UK and the son of Lion King. I waited a long time to find a Vanner that would suit my needs, and he came along for sale 3 yrs ago, and the owner told me his forte was kids! He loves them, and he is trained to drive. I drove to look at him and fell in love. He has a personality that is outstanding! I am a Reiki practitioner and I do animal assisted therapy with children who have severe challenges. I use him for vaulting. I am the only certified vaulting teacher in Florida, and he is so amazing, especially when the child is challenged. I work with autistic kids. Also we use him to teach 4-h kids to drive and they do their projects with Arkan. He does our pony rides for us when school kids come to visit the farm.. 35 at a time! I also make him the star when we do the black horse literacy program with the schools.. its to help kids learn to read, they read to him! 125 kids at a time! So Arkan is invaluable to our farm.. he is the shining star of the GOOD EARTH FARM

Congress Hill Farm At Clearfield County Fair

Our farm being the first to EVER enter Gypsy Vanners at the Clearfield county fair in 2011, we decided to be the best ambassadors we could and we had a blast doing it.
Congress Hill Farms only used 3 stalls in the barn that year, but the crowds that surrounded them spoke volumes for the general public's interest. "Lucky horse shoes" were handed out to all the children and the stalls were decorated with fun facts and pictures of our favorite breed.
Since we were the first ever Gypsy vanners to the fair, a demo was scheduled. Our stallion Clononeen Dun Bodee (registered GVHS Princely Inheritance but known to all as Dun Bodee) was to be ridden in the FIRST EVER breed demo at our fair. Then the unthinkable happened.
2 months prior to opening day of the fair, my daughter, Bodee's rider, broke her leg, severely, and dislocated her ankle, in a barrel racing accident. My husband and I planned on canceling the stallion demonstration... I had thought all our time and effort into planning this demo was wasted.
Until:
I came out to the barn and watched the two of them hobble down the barn aisle very slowly together. She was leading him on crutches and he would patiently take a step and then stop. Waiting on her, and watching for his next cue. Pretty amazing! And just like when she was a little girl, I found myself helping her saddle up, so she could go practice.
That day at the fair, the bleachers were filled, crowds had gathered, and a very nervous mother hit "play" on their CD, and watched as my stallion entered the arena carrying my daughter with a broken leg. His 4 foot long mane tangled with the wind as they made their laps around the arena. I HELD MY BREATH, as she got him into his rocking horse lope and with a cascade of feather enveloping the ground with each stride he took, our Bodee won over the hearts of some of the die hard, stock horse folks that day.
Not only does Clononeen Dun Bodee possess all the charisma and correct conformation you want to see in a breeding stallion. He also is a great ambassador for his breed at fairs, is shown in hand at halter, and he can now add a steady mount for disabled riders to his resume...Gypsy Vanners can do it all!
Bodee and Nikki are excited to attend the Universal Principles for Equestrians clinic this September 8th and 9th. representing the Gypsy Vanner in the parade of breeds. Guy Mclean, Patrick King, and Jeff Wilson are among the clinicians performing that weekend. I am the official MC for the festivities that night during the equi-mania show and just like last year, I will be the nervous mother hitting play on their cd. Wish us luck......as we represent the Gypsy Vanner in the parade of breeds.
