My Journey
I first discovered Gypsies in 2002. My husband and I were visiting Ireland and were driving through the countryside. We passed through a little village (to this day I couldn't tell you which one, just that it was somewhere in the South between Wexford and Cahir) and right on the outskirts was a small field with about twenty small, heavy, hairy, piebald horses with feather and big fat butts! I yelled to my husband "STOP!!!! I need to look at those horses. I don't know what they are but we have to stop!" Now keep in mind that we weren't headed anywhere in particular but apparently we had a schedule to keep and couldn't be bothered to stop and look at horses. He assured me that we would certainly stop on our way back and I could spend as much time as I wanted looking at them then. Well, of course, we got lost and ended coming back a completely different direction and the horses were lost forever. As soon as I got home I got online and started tracking them down and I found them! I'd never had a horse before but had always wanted one and when I saw my first Gypsy Vanner I knew that they were perfect horse for me. From then on every month or so I'd cruise the internet looking at whatever I could find on them and learning as much as I could about them. Every year I went to the Fall Feathered Horse Classic in Perry, GA and I knew some day I'd have one of my own.
Then finally, a year and a half ago, I decided it was now or never and started searching the country for my horse. Little by little I narrowed it down to my final choice, a five month old colt called Anthem (Romany King x Serenade) bred by Barb Snyder at Wild Creek Farm in Ohio. I drove up to look at him and the moment that I saw him I knew he was mine. The funniest thing happened that night. I bolted up, wide awake, in my hotel bed and had a HUGE panic attack! An hour later I'd convinced myself that owning Anthem, let alone any horse, was one of the dumbest ideas I'd ever had. Who did I think I was?! I didn't know a thing about horses! I'd read about them and gone to shows and hung out with friends with horses and gone to horse movies and read horse books but after all, in the end, what did I really know? How could I possibly do such a silly thing? By the time I went back to sleep my decision was made. I would just get back in my car and drive home to Georgia and never look back. Morning came, I got up, went straight back to Barb's and told her he was mine (who was that crazy lady in the middle of the night?) and he's been my best boy ever since. I love him with all of my heart and soul. He's two today and the most beautiful boy in the world. The best part of my day is when I get to spend time with him. He's smart, curious, sweet, calm and interested in everything. I can't wait for another year to go by so that we can learn to drive. He's going to be awesome!

Charlotte Money of BriarCroft Gypsy Vanners At The Indiana Hoosier Horse Fair
BriarCroft Stables of Mooresville, Indiana recently took The Briar Prince to the Indiana Hoosier Horse Fair to help represent the Gypsy Vanner Horse. Prince (ridden by Megan Provost)performed for audiences daily in the Parade of Stallions. Prince and BriarCroft meet hundreds of new people and were able to introduce them to the wonderful attributes of the Gypsy Vanners. Several people mentioned this was their first opportunity to see and learn about these horses. The GVHS also hosted a booth at the Fair where additional information was available to help promote the breed.
